This decking is designed for use on pontoon boats; it is weather-proof, will not warp or rot and is treated to prevent insect infestation. Each sheet of plywood is contructed from 7 plys of Douglas Fir that is pressed together and glued with special marine adheseives, then kiln dried. Your carpeting will bond perfectly to the surface.
It is extremely important that you use the correct type of hardware and plywood for your rebuild. CCA, treated marine-grade decking is recommended and is the decking of choice for boat builders - we only sell CCA treated marine decking.
CCA treated decking uses chromated copper arsenate which provides superior resistance in outdoor applications against rotting and insect infestation and will not interact with metals. Our 7-ply, 3/4" marine grade decking is made from 7 layers of Douglas Fir, uses marine adhesives and is pressed then kiln dried to prevent warping. It has a 40 year usable lifetime warranty.
Why CCA treated plywood for my pontoon?
The EPA changed the laws regulating the treatment of plywood used in residential construction and by doing so eliminated CCA treatment for the majority of plywood. The process in which most plywood is now treated will not withstand the marine environment as it will warp and rot if left uncovered. Plywood found at lumber yards is designed for home building, not boat building. Non-CCA treated decking has a chemical compound in it that will interact with metal and aluminum, eating it over time and thinning it.
