Based on the grades you're getting, it must not be too bad dirty. Personally for the savings I'd get at least the 1/2lb jar (maybe even 1lb) of the F7 and 1/2 lb of the S. Are you going to put Sharkhide on them later?

yes i will put sharkhide on them. the toons were bad last owner never cleaned them and they were sitting on trailer for last 2 years. couldnt take to car wash trailer is rotted out, but wouldnt do any good anyway. had to use flap disc to remove scum, lime, and calcium deposits. toons are now shiny but have fine scratches from flap disc. I used coil cleaner on it to remove deposits but didnt phase them a bit!!!! ( this f/w lake will eat out a 1/4' thick dock post in 5 to 8 years) the build up is tough to get off even when its fresh. think i might want the f9 instead of f7?

Can't remember if I've seen any pics of your boat yet, so I'd go with whatever you think you need.

Hi Puddlepirate! Welcome aboard! Mine had deposits too that partially came off with the coil cleaner but they were thick. I ended up using a small palm sander with 320 grit to get the crusties off. I used a little more than 1/2 pound of Nuvite F7 to polish out the whole 28' and the nose cones inside and out. The S goes a lot further I found. I still have quite a bit of the half pound jar left. The F7 and some elbow grease did take out all the sanding marks. I'd recommend getting one pound F7 and half pound S and you'll have some left for touch ups later. Good luck and post us some pics when you can!

Raise off individual blocks as necessary. Here is a photo of what I am talking about. Naturally the jacks go on the four corners. |

This should answer that question just don't lower the boat!

I searched all over, I thought it was you that had a lot better illustration then you little model. One of these days when I have more time, I'll look for it again. Yeah, don't know about genius - but pretty dang close , now I'd definitely give ya an A for ingenuity for props illustrating your viewpoint/instructions.

It would be my opinion, that it'd still affect it some, since about a 3rd of what you're trying to clean you can't get to unless you jack it up. Really depends on how nasty it looks there. I know I'm gonna clean mine one of these days

1stimetooner,Im not sure about 3 grades of acid type, but I bought today a gallon of Calbrite concentrated foaming acid coil cleaner and it was 36 bucks a gallon. The guy said you can mix it 50/50 or even 3/1 so you'll have either 2 or3 gallons to work with.My pontoons have really heavy calcium crust on them so hopefully the 3/1 will work.Other folks here used another brand and said it was 12-14 a gallon. But thats kinda my luck. Its suppose to rain again starting tomorrow and clear up this weekend so i'll see how it works by then.Im taking pictures but misplaced the cable to link my camera to my puter!! When I find it i'll post pics.Good luck eveybody whos rebuilding and cleaning!! Kevin

I would suspect it is similar to the pink stuff but I have no experience with it. My best suggestion is to try a small area underneath and see what happens. Be careful and wear gloves, long sleeves and safety goggles or at least glasses when handling the stuff!

Well, thats about right BUT, the main thing is DON'T LET IT DRY ON THERE!! My attack was spray it on, wait 3-4 minutes (drink half a beer) then rinse. I did about a 4-5 foot section at a time. It took about a 12 pack!

I bought Alum-Brite from Tractor Supply locally, haven't even used half a gallon yet (bought a gallon), I went full strength initially on the tough places, then later mixed 50/50. Now I'm working it with Gord's Polish (if it'll ever quit raining on my days off).
Brian, welcome to the forums guy. Got really great people here as well at the retail outlet at www.PontoonStuff.com. Owners are Jim (administrator) and Andrea (pontoongirl) Myers and they got a great staff to help if you ever need to buy (almost) anything. Happy boating and be sure to put details of you boat in your signature line. It saves questions later if everyone know what you've got up front.

How did you deal with the black stuff which is created when you use the polisher?

Heck no, for me, if it floats and the motor works, and I got it cheap, its mine - all mine, it just won't take as much weight as mine will. Wasn't it you that said your plate said the max HP is 75? for a 24ft? A lot of 24's a have bigger motor and weight capacities than yours (especially newer ones). Now if I had the money and felt so inclined, I'd pull those off and put the BIG ones on it, course that means at the very least, a new carpet with those new tubes. Add a 3rd tube/motor pod and you'll really have something (although custom) and you'd need a new capacity plate (again custom since it was modified) but you'll support more weight and a bigger motor (if so desired)

Well with the new plate (my memory is fading fast), seems like you had more weight, but less HP (doesn't make a lot of sense to me to tell ya the truth), but I'd stick with the old plate, less weight, bigger HP, because you can get ticketed for exceeding the HP rating, but in your case, it doesn't currently affect you since you only have a 60 (but 15 people seems a big stretch to me), I wouldn't even carry 11 (lets see, me, wife, her sister, hubby and 3 kids) yep, I'm covered IF I can only coax her sister and hubby on board (scared to death to get on a boat, but can swim - go figure), now the kids, they are ready - their parents - thats a different story but I'm working on it.
