After fishing out of a bass boat for 8-9 years, I decided my need for speed was gone and desired much more comfort and the ability to take more folks with me. Having profited from my association with a couple of VW Touareg forums since 04, I immediately searched for pontoon forums and am really pleased with the abundant info and activity here.

I am really looking forward to learning here and hopefully will be able to shed some light as my experience grows.

Rick

Welcome Rick! Nothing better than a toon. You will be very happy with the change if you don't mind going a bit slower. I think the comfort is worth it though..

Rick, nice of you to join us. I know in the time I've been here I've learned a lot from our members. I don't mind wiring, but I had to admit, I was plum nervous as a cat's tail switching under grandma's rocking chair about taking off the rails of my toon the very first time. However, after a couple of months looking at the rebuild projects and guys explaining what they did, how they did it had me convinced that I could do it too. Welcome aboard the best family oriented pontoon site anywhere.

I have always thought I wanted a pontoon boat.  Then we went out with some friends on theirs and then I *knew* I wanted one.  So I was thinking about finding a project boat and rebuilding.  In my research I found these forums.  Thank everybody for all the advice I have picked up just by lurking.

When I find my true love (boat that is), I guess I will have to change my name.

hello all, ours is a normal story about the wife getting what she wants.lol we started looking and I thought that buying a fixxer upper would be fun for the whole bunch of us. so I started looking at seats and decking stuff . thats how I found this place, I was even more amazed when I found out pontoonstuff was in elkhart!!! We ended up buying a 95 grumman funship(20ft) with a force by mercury 40 . it needs a few little things but its already been redecked and carpeted. the seats on this toon are in awesome shape. has a full cover and an electric anchor, we are very excited and cant wait till spring so we can get to enjoying it.  thx from a local first time toon family

Darn that's a shame you didn't join up last month so you could have come by and seen the gang in action helping me rebuild my pontoon boat http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2136 and you would have met me and scbadiver in person and maybe even met Kevin our electrical wizard with EZACDC which is the new startup of PontoonStuff for electrical needs. Oh and I updated the yr of your model in your signature line. Be sure to call PontoonStuff in advance that you're coming as the front doors are normally locked (no receptionist up front). Check out the showroom, its got some stuff and check out the VisionAire seat and those huge reclining bucket seats (I made them my fishing chairs ), very comfortable. Also check out scbadivers rebuild of his 1975 boat, very cool transformation.

Found this site while researching pontoon boats to buy one. After movig here from Idaho,we'd decided to get another RV,but decided a 'toon would be more fun since we can spend so much more time on the water here. Found what we wanted on craig's list: '98 Landau Bandit Cruise 24' w/ '98 - 90 HP force outboard. We took it out for the 2nd time today fishing. Really love it because we can stand up and walk around. Sorry I didn't get any pics because I planned to just before I took it out of the water. However a stiff breeze had built up by that time and I had my mind on getting it on the trailer w/ a crosswind more than pics.I'll add this was the second time I've loaded it,so I'm still learning this. Loaded lots of hull boats, but 'toons are a little different, especially in a crosswind!!!

It's in good shape overall, except the front seats are weathered badly. Still usable but just look bad. Deck and carpet are A-1, motor has a rebuilt lower unit, new fishfinder and new stereo w/ CD player. We're debating whether to get the front seats recovered, replce them or take them out and install 4 swivel fishing seats. I already have 4 nice fishing seats w/ swivels and I like the price of the seat pedestals at the Pontoonstuff store,so will probably go that route. We also plan to buy a small dome tent so we can sleep on the boat.

Anyway, I like this forum most of all the ones I've been to,so I'll be a regular visitor and try to post pics of any changes we make on it. My first project will be finishing cleaning the pontoons. The previous owner cleaned all but the back third insides. Still has a lot of calcium build up which I'm sure translates into a lot of drag and reduced gas mileage. I'm going to buy some of the Nubrite(?).If that doesn't do it, back to the wetordry paper like I've been using.

              Later,

                      Mike

I spent a few summer in San Angelo visiting my aunt and uncle years ago, but never made it on to the lake there. We visited there last year to see the San Angelo Colts play baseball while we were in Texas. I have always enjoyed my visits to San Angelo.

I guess I should add, I found this sight googling pontoon boats.

As you can guess by my user name, I'm a retired Coast Guard warrant officer.    I had a Baja fish&ski that was a lot of fun, but very tight for all 4 kids, the wife and me.  We had been out on a friend's pontoon  and really enjoyed it, but the price of a new one was scary with a kid in private college. I heard the friend had bought a bigger toon, so I asked if he had sold the one we rode on.  He said he could give us a good price if we were interested.  It was a LOT bigger than we remembered - 31 feet with a fixed upper sundeck!  When we found a slip near our home, we took the plunge. The toon was stored indoors except for the very forward section of decking and the seats...so, we shopped online for new seats, and here I am! I'll get the wife to decide on the seats and order them right after the new year!

Welcome to the site CGbosun. Sounds like a nice setup with plenty of room to spare. Does it have an inboard or outboard? I'm guessing it's a Suntracker or similar rig. Shoot us some pics when you get the chance..

Hello all,I am considering a pontoon project boat and I was searching pontoon supplies when I found your site. I had a 19' fishing model that I replaced with a 22' CC fishing boat. I miss the room and comfort of the pontoon. Although I love to fish we pleasure cruise as much. I priced new pontoons this past year and was shocked at the prices. What I want is a combination fishing/cruising/and performance.

Welcome Dave! No better time to buy one than now. I'm guessing you would want something with triple logs and high HP? Do you have any brands in mind? Maybe someone here that is in your area (Pa. or Md.) can help out with a good source for one if you narrow down what you're looking to get..

Thanks rickdb1,I've had my eye out for some time looking for a handyman special. I looked at new tritoons this past year but  50k-60k is more than I want to spend.I also looked at some used late model TT but again not exactly what I wanted.I want to start with a fixer upper and add the features I've seen on what I've looked at so far and what I loved about my toon. I'm in no hurry and I'll know the boat I want when I find her. I've enjoyed looking threw the rebuilds,I had to smile and even chuckle at a few.You can see the pride and loving care that goes into bringing a boat back to life.

Jeff and I acquired our pontoon boat knowing full well it needed a little work.  I found PontoonStuff.com when first looking for a replacement stove.  The one burner alcohol stove was not going to work for me and my natural 'feeding the masses' ability.   We also need fence guards and a bunch of other things.  We are not particularly new to boating but definitely new to tooning.  Never been on one until we picked up Linda's Lounge.  The fist time I checked out the forum was because of our oil injector warning.  We spent and still spend hours looking at all the extensive information contained in this forum.  Thank you all for helping us find the best ideas for us to apply to our toon

Hello new to the site and thought I'd share how I came to join the forums.  I have been wanting a pontoon for a long time and finally found one I could afford knowing it was going to need further work.  I came across this one last month and fell in love with it.  1984 24ft Lowe Pontoon.  The previous owner had done allot of work on the pontoon as it was in pretty bad shape.  He re-did the flooring, new carpet, new seats, console, running lights etc. So I have a good start to complete it the way I would like to do.  I want to put new side seats in, have already ordered a live well and I want to get a double bimini top so I can stay in the shade when I take it bouth to Alabama.  The previous owner had purchased many of the items from pontoonstuff and recommended that I check you out.  I really got excited when I found the forum and eagerly read many of the posts of those who had rebuilt etc.  Of course the 101 on buying a pontoon would have been a great bit of wisdom to have read prior to looking but oh well!

I look forward to visiting the forums and furthering my education in this area as well as great place to buy some of the items I need.

Brian

Oh and when you go to Alabama around Smith Lake area, tell my kin folks I'm still alive but I'm not coming back (well not to see them anyways, but I'll come fishing), they can find me somewhere or anywhere around water with fish in it.

Hi all. We decided to sell the bass boat and go to a pontoon boat because friends always wanted to come along fishing and floating. We 're not speed freaks so the pontoon will be perfect. I found this site just snoopin' around the web. What a resource!! I'm still searching for THE pontoon boat, but this site has already informed me of so much about really looking at the boat. I'm visiting the forum a few times a week and I learn and get great ideas with every visit.

I guess I got here like everybody else, looking for a reliable site to purchase items to refurbish our pontoon boat.  I had visited a few other on-line supplier sites, but was always brought back here by the variety and reasonable price.

Hi Wildcat, and thanks for the welcome!

I've actually been cruising the site for a couple of years, and always enjoy reading the posts.

I bought my boat in '05, and now that it has a few years use on it, time to start working on it to keep it up! Look forward to doing some business with pontoonstuff, my list gets longer every time I cruise the site.

We're located in north metro Atlanta on Lake Lanier, and I've seen a few posts from fellow pontooners over at Lake Allatoona as well. We hope to get over there as well as Lake Jocassee in SC this summer.

Regarding my post about the Waterglide, I've read thru them all, just wondering if there have been any design or structural changes since I last looked at them a year or 2 ago, and any recent comments on them.

Also, I read with interest your post about the get together in Chattanooga this summer.....gotta talk to the captain and see if we can do a road trip!!

Below are a few pics of my toon and Lanier (back when it still had water in it)....enjoy!

Welcome Chris (cdawley4)!! Best advice I can say is to keep your eyes and ears open. Check all the newspapers and Craigslist. Might contact some Marinas and see if they know of anything. Course this spot has alot folks all over the country and you might get a lead here. Something in the $1000-$2000 range is a good starting point for a rebuild project and the more you spend up front, the less you will likely have to do. Even if it has no motor, you can usually find a decent one for around a $1000.00 or so.

Well, hello all. I am mid-project and hopefully I will get some pics up with the help of some resizing of the photos.  I came to this site after talking to 'Annette' who was extremely helpful when I placed my first order for furniture and carpet, etc...  I have appreciated the help from the project site.  Keep up the good work.  Mike
