As you can guess by my user name, I'm a retired Coast Guard warrant officer. I had a Baja fish&ski that was a lot of fun, but very tight for all 4 kids, the wife and me. We had been out on a friend's pontoon and really enjoyed it, but the price of a new one was scary with a kid in private college. I heard the friend had bought a bigger toon, so I asked if he had sold the one we rode on. He said he could give us a good price if we were interested. It was a LOT bigger than we remembered - 31 feet with a fixed upper sundeck! When we found a slip near our home, we took the plunge. The toon was stored indoors except for the very forward section of decking and the seats...so, we shopped online for new seats, and here I am! I'll get the wife to decide on the seats and order them right after the new year!

Welcome to the site CGbosun. Sounds like a nice setup with plenty of room to spare. Does it have an inboard or outboard? I'm guessing it's a Suntracker or similar rig. Shoot us some pics when you get the chance..

Hello all,I am considering a pontoon project boat and I was searching pontoon supplies when I found your site. I had a 19' fishing model that I replaced with a 22' CC fishing boat. I miss the room and comfort of the pontoon. Although I love to fish we pleasure cruise as much. I priced new pontoons this past year and was shocked at the prices. What I want is a combination fishing/cruising/and performance.

Welcome Dave! No better time to buy one than now. I'm guessing you would want something with triple logs and high HP? Do you have any brands in mind? Maybe someone here that is in your area (Pa. or Md.) can help out with a good source for one if you narrow down what you're looking to get..

Thanks rickdb1,I've had my eye out for some time looking for a handyman special. I looked at new tritoons this past year but 50k-60k is more than I want to spend.I also looked at some used late model TT but again not exactly what I wanted.I want to start with a fixer upper and add the features I've seen on what I've looked at so far and what I loved about my toon. I'm in no hurry and I'll know the boat I want when I find her. I've enjoyed looking threw the rebuilds,I had to smile and even chuckle at a few.You can see the pride and loving care that goes into bringing a boat back to life.

Jeff and I acquired our pontoon boat knowing full well it needed a little work. I found PontoonStuff.com when first looking for a replacement stove. The one burner alcohol stove was not going to work for me and my natural 'feeding the masses' ability. We also need fence guards and a bunch of other things. We are not particularly new to boating but definitely new to tooning. Never been on one until we picked up Linda's Lounge. The fist time I checked out the forum was because of our oil injector warning. We spent and still spend hours looking at all the extensive information contained in this forum. Thank you all for helping us find the best ideas for us to apply to our toon

Hello new to the site and thought I'd share how I came to join the forums. I have been wanting a pontoon for a long time and finally found one I could afford knowing it was going to need further work. I came across this one last month and fell in love with it. 1984 24ft Lowe Pontoon. The previous owner had done allot of work on the pontoon as it was in pretty bad shape. He re-did the flooring, new carpet, new seats, console, running lights etc. So I have a good start to complete it the way I would like to do. I want to put new side seats in, have already ordered a live well and I want to get a double bimini top so I can stay in the shade when I take it bouth to Alabama. The previous owner had purchased many of the items from pontoonstuff and recommended that I check you out. I really got excited when I found the forum and eagerly read many of the posts of those who had rebuilt etc. Of course the 101 on buying a pontoon would have been a great bit of wisdom to have read prior to looking but oh well!
I look forward to visiting the forums and furthering my education in this area as well as great place to buy some of the items I need.
Brian

Oh and when you go to Alabama around Smith Lake area, tell my kin folks I'm still alive but I'm not coming back (well not to see them anyways, but I'll come fishing), they can find me somewhere or anywhere around water with fish in it.

I'm new here and found this site while researching the options to buy or build a pontoon boat. Your posts provided me with a ton of much needed information. I am not new to boating, but I've never owned a pontoon before. I'm 53 now and with grandkids, comfort and size are definitely top priorities, and a pontoon boat simply fulfills all of the needs we identified. After many hours of research and a recent trip to the Houston boat show, we decided on a SunCruiser Angler SS224 with the XL performance package because of the 3- 25' pontoons, the 4 point fish platform, and still plenty of room to accomodate grandkids and meet our other needs. Thanks to all who have helped me make informed decisions! There are a lot of nice folks here!!! Will post pics when we get it, but will likely wait until the end of February or March, since we are still making repairs to our home and barn (boat storage) from hurricane ike. Thanks again for your help!!! Mike

Hi all. We decided to sell the bass boat and go to a pontoon boat because friends always wanted to come along fishing and floating. We 're not speed freaks so the pontoon will be perfect. I found this site just snoopin' around the web. What a resource!! I'm still searching for THE pontoon boat, but this site has already informed me of so much about really looking at the boat. I'm visiting the forum a few times a week and I learn and get great ideas with every visit.

I've been looking for a pontoon boat for awhile now, and found this site when googling for information about them.
Joined and started posting this week, after my DH agreed to get one. Wooohooo! Can't wait to find my boat and get out on the water.
I already have some items in my Pontoonstuff cart, waiting to find the boat to put them on!

Well, looks like I'm the newest so far, have been a PBO for several years - wish I had bought it 25 years ago. Live in Beaufort, SC - own a pon-boat (22' Crest w/ 50HP Evinrude), along with a 15 ft Scout / 50 HP 4 stroke Yam, 3 kayaks and a jetski. I scuba dive, fish (handle is redsinthehead because I'm a redfish fanatic) and am involved in JUST about everything on water. 55 yrs old, 31 years as a teacher. Ended up with a pontoon boat because of my grand-daughter who's now 4 - 'Honey, we have got to get a bigger boat!'...(I have found can talk wife into pretty much anything I WANT if I can tie it to the grandkids...we have since been blessed with one more!). Found this site looking for PB gear...looks awesome.

My girlfriend and I deceided to buy a pontoon last fall, and I looked for 3 months before I got the one I wanted. Its not perfect, but its nice for the price I gave for it. I was looking at google for pontoon stores and parts, and thats how I ran across this forum. I jumped right in and starting asking questions, and have many more to ask. Seems like several people jumped right in to offer answers or suggestions. I have my list made up and ready to start ordering things soon.
Thanks for being such a nice bunch of folks here........I feel right at home!!!!

Thanx - been a PBO for about 4 years - bulled my way through the learning curve on my own (all my other boats have pointy front ends). My boat was in so-so shape when I got it....I did replace my carpet and recovered the seat boxes with the same carpet - pulled all the deck gear and laid the carpet, also added starboard blocks under the rails so when I wash it outall the flotsam goes right under (raised it about 1/2 an inch). Added depth finder and a spare GPS I had. My tubes look awful (stained), and the guy that had it before me kept it at a dock, so he had anti-fouling paint on the bottom. Really impressed with some of the tube cleaning I've seen on here.

I guess I got here like everybody else, looking for a reliable site to purchase items to refurbish our pontoon boat. I had visited a few other on-line supplier sites, but was always brought back here by the variety and reasonable price.

Hi Wildcat, and thanks for the welcome!
I've actually been cruising the site for a couple of years, and always enjoy reading the posts.
I bought my boat in '05, and now that it has a few years use on it, time to start working on it to keep it up! Look forward to doing some business with pontoonstuff, my list gets longer every time I cruise the site.
We're located in north metro Atlanta on Lake Lanier, and I've seen a few posts from fellow pontooners over at Lake Allatoona as well. We hope to get over there as well as Lake Jocassee in SC this summer.
Regarding my post about the Waterglide, I've read thru them all, just wondering if there have been any design or structural changes since I last looked at them a year or 2 ago, and any recent comments on them.
Also, I read with interest your post about the get together in Chattanooga this summer.....gotta talk to the captain and see if we can do a road trip!!
Below are a few pics of my toon and Lanier (back when it still had water in it)....enjoy!

Hi,
I am new to the board. I guess I came about in the wrong way. Usually, people that have boats or need help on a topic come here to post what their problems are. I, on the other hand, have no boat, but have always been interested in rebuilding a pontoon boat. I have been a fan of pontoon boats ever since my parents got one in 1987. As a matter of fact, it was a Sun Tracker Party Barge 24. My parents bought it with a trailer and if I'm not mistaken, they paid like $8K-9K for it. When I see how much the new ones are going for now, I start thinking why someone would pay that much for one, knowing that the manufacturer can build those things for like 5K-6K even with the 25HP-35HP motor on it. I had a chance back about 1994-1996 to rebuild their boat, but parts were kind of hard to find back then. It would be nice to find a boat like on the blog I was reading where someone went out and bought the 1953 or so pontoon boat from someone for $250 and rebuilt it. Since I live in Georgia, most boats in my area start at $1000-2500. Some with a motor, some without a motor. Any help on getting started would be appreciated.
Thanks,
CD

Welcome Chris (cdawley4)!! Best advice I can say is to keep your eyes and ears open. Check all the newspapers and Craigslist. Might contact some Marinas and see if they know of anything. Course this spot has alot folks all over the country and you might get a lead here. Something in the $1000-$2000 range is a good starting point for a rebuild project and the more you spend up front, the less you will likely have to do. Even if it has no motor, you can usually find a decent one for around a $1000.00 or so.
