Reading back in the forum for the last couple of weeks, there are some interesting & very entertaining people in this group, has anyone ever suggested a toon gathering or a lake coup. This could be a Hoot!

Ahoy bboater,

It's tuff but do-able, The trick is finding a central place that has accommadations for those who are within a decent traveling distance either by trailer or water can meet. Still trying to convince Jim to do a Pontoonstuff EXPO and BBQ in Indiana....Now that would be a HOOT ........................Mike

Indiana / Louisiana how about 1/2 way, S. Mo./N. Ark. Paw in law lives in Mt. Home there are some beautiful lakes in those hills! The wife & I have discussed that takin the toon on the road would make for some great vacations, now that it's just her & I. Before those little people start showing up.

That might be worth towing from West Texas.   Sounds like a lot of fun.  We have made lots of life-long friends by going to a mountain rally for VW Touaregs the last few years.

Don't think I'd be towing my rig for almost 12hrs (to Many or Mansfield, LA), I'll have to wait for something closer. LA fishing site is down too, so couldn't look up how much a non-resident fishing license was as I've got to fish if I hit the water

Sounds like some regions need to be established! Georgia will have to cede
to Tennessee or Alabama as our regional hub since we still don't have much
water! That Lake Nickajack always looks appealing whenever I drive to
Nashville or Lake Logan Martin when I go to Birmingham... Either way, I'm
renting and not towing!

You know I forgot all about that place as you had me stumped as I didn't recall that being anywhere near Nashville (its just outside Chattanooga to the southeast of Nashville). I've never been there, but after looking at their website (Hales Marina, they've got floating cabins to rent) it looks very interesting. Going to have to drive down there and look it over and see if its handicapped accessible. Looks good Craig for those looking for information about the lake and other info like nearby marina's and directions

They do lots of stripper fishing here in Nashville. I use to love catching flounder down in LA. Now bluefish, I've seen that on TV and would love to give that a while. One of these days I'll visit my birthplace and do some charter fishing there.

Looks like I might have sparked some interest. Toledo Bend is a cool place been there for 18 yrs. But would really like to go to some place like Lake Hamilton and just take it over. Beautiful water & lots of sights.

Wife and I just went to Hales Bar Marina in Guild, TN www.halesbarmarina.com to check them out. They have floating cabins (wife and I were intrigued with those) which are handicapped accessible as well as land cabins (too steep even for me just by looking at the brochure, but didn't actually see them). I did see their rental pontoons including a double decker unit. Now its good if my wife says its kinda neat (because she could actually get to it and see for herself. The one bedroom unit we looked at had a full size bed (although queen would have been nice as we're not little people ). It's fully furnished (no dishwasher, as you're it), does have a small fridge, microwave, 2 burner stove, central heat/air along with a fake fireplace (looked nice though and you can crank up the heat on it to warm up the front). The living room opens to the outside small deck area, each side had a storage bin or use it as a little table. Fish right from there if you want. I didn't check out the floating restaurant but the people were very friendly in the ship store (unlike some places I've been to) and I have to say this is the first time in TN I actually found a place that had decent handicap access.

Addon: I talked to Jennifer Heddleson who's the marina manager and she said she'll wave the $15 transient tie up fee (if you're bringing your boat). The launch area is about a 1/4 mile from the marina and you can't tie up to the floating cabins (but close enough). If you have anyone in a wheelchair, they will arrange to transport them via a pontoon boat to the floating cabin. If you call well in advance, they can make arrangements to use the larger floating cabins (more space) for those in wheelchairs. She'll also give us a group discount (not sure how much it would be, but I'd imagine it would depend on how many are coming). Local restaurants - I saw one 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the road in Guild, TN, you could also go north on I-24 to the next exit (9 miles to Kimball/South Pittsburg, TN) where's there are several fast food places and other places to eat, also a WalMart there. Going south you'll eventually run into places or go into Chattanooga, TN itself (13 miles or so). If you're looking for additional fun for the family - I HIGHLY recommend the http://www.tnaqua.org/ Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. It's been a few years since the wife and I went (would have been more fun with kids, nieces or nephews). The view around Nickajack Lake is great. They are also having 4th Annual Christmas Boat Parade Dec 6th starting at dark, and the 2nd Chili cookoff begins at 2pm that same day.

Wife and I are planning for a return trip and to stay a weekend there on the floating cabin. Hoping to take the boat, but that depends if I get it all done and how well I recover from the elbow and wrist surgery (Dec 19th). The rates go up April 1st, so if any of you guys in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, or anywhere nearby want to try and plan March 27th & 28th, let me know as I know some of you probably need plenty of time to plan. Oh and they rent Starcraft Pontoons, the double decker pontoon I didn't see who made it (has I think a 115hp on it), the prices for rentals was very good for a full day ($199). I think I saw like 4 rental pontoons there. So look at their web site and tell me what else you want me to check out when we go for a weekend there. Oh and no smoking in the cabins (the floating ones for sure as theres gas nearby)

We love to camp and boat. But, being a teacher, we are limited to travelling in the summer time. I will keep an eye on this thread.

Hey Robert Lake Hamilton sounds good but why not Lake Ouachita? We are divers and love going there to dive although I am sure Lake Hamilton offers diving to some degree. We have been to Lake Ouachita on house boat and there are hundreds of islands you could tie pontoons up too and have a take over.

I bet I could talk the hubby into anywhere central Arkansas.

After he towed the boat from Northern AR, I know that is not an option.  He said he doesn't want to tow it that far again.  The 6 cylinder just couldn't pull the boat very well with those hills.

Kerr/Buggs Island lake in North Carolina would be a great spot.  It is on the Virgina North Carolina line.  It has 800 miles of shore line and alot of secluded coves.  The fishing is world class.

Not sure where your located breamslayer but if your coming up from South of Hot Springs area you have few if any substantial hills. Maybe the stretch between Arkadelphia and Hot Springs but otherwise pretty flat as far as I can recall.

Sound like we're headed for an Ark. take over. Have not been to lake Ouachita, but I'm very flexable. I just mentioned Hot springs because the water is beautiful and there are some really good resturants. And I do love the food!

Lake Ouachita is listed as #3 in cleanest lakes in US. I have dove there a couple of times and it is clear. Ouachita, Hamilton and Catherine are all adjacent to Hot Springs. I think Ouachita is the biggest and has all the islands which would make a great place to moor and if anyone wanted to camp I beleive you can pitch a tent on them. Of course there are lots of hotels in Hot Springs and plenty of places to stay on the lake as well as campgrounds. If I get the boat like I want it thats where I will be sleeping

We are about an hour east of Hot Springs.  We were planning on doing some toonin' in Hot Springs this year anyway. A get together on Ouachita would be wunnerful.

I am really looking forward to this!!

I was worried about towing to Northern Arkansas.  Husband said that was a rough trip.  It got even rougher when he lost a tire and didn't have a spare.

I could probably tow a couple of hours to Arkansas or Toledo Bend. Depending on what time of year it would be. Keep me updated if yall come up with something.

My offer still stands if someone would like help getting the ball rolling in your area, just plan it with plenty of notice as some folks don't check into the forums for up to 2 months or longer. (they aren't as addicted as us)

Charles, Im willing to conjur up something in August or September. Looks like there is some interest in Arkansas (Lake Ouachita or Hamilton). I am somewhat familiar with Ouachita & Degray but never been to Hamilton. These are the only 2 months I can commit to attending. This would be within a days drive for most in Louisiana, East Oklahoma & Texas, Arkansas, North Mississippi, South MO and maybe West TN if I have my mental geograpy correct. Just let me know what I need to do!

Find a place that's conducive, suitable for a gatering, web site address, date(s) you want to set it for and I'll make the initial phone calls and make you the authoritive person for contact on behalf of PontoonStuff, you then would just include me on all discussions with whoever you're trying to obtain discounts, making arrangements (so I'm aware of anything you might need assistance in). I might even be willing to drive there if necessary to make arrangements if its within a days drive (preferably not more than 4hrs driving so I don't have to spend the night). Setting a date and place soon is the biggest venture. Date first would be a good start, as from there, I can work out where you guys want to stay depending on the discounts I could work out. I will include you on any coorespondence (along with Jim and Andrea) that I have as I want everyone to be able to get the best deal possible. So give me 3 locations with #1 being the most ideal and where you'd think most people would like to stay. Once that's decided I'll start a new thread with that Get-Together with you being the primary contact.

Ok I can do that and will begin working on it. Are there any specific activities (with or without) pontoons that we need to plan? A cookout or some kind of official meetings? I figure this will affect the plans on where to go as far as accomodations. As far as dates I would suggest the weekend of the 8th or 15th of August. My personal preference would be to go first to Lake Ouachita (Brady Mountain area has campground & small hotel) and Hot Springs is close by. Second would be Lake Degray or Hamilton and third Toledo Bend. Of course there are numerous other options in this area and these are just some that have been discussed here. I am more familiar with Degray and Ouachita but love to try new places.

I leave the planning of cookouts and such up to you, I just looked and that's just over 7 hr drive for me. I know I won't haul my boat there. I got a lot to do tomorrow and Wednesday at work, but I'll give the Restort/Marina a call to get it going, but let me know by Wednesday if you want the meeting Aug 7th & 8th or  Aug 14th & 15th. If I get no joy in obtaining discounts, I'll start again with the 2nd preferred location.
