Well we had a great weekend fishing. Went out to the gulf, about a mile out. Found a small island and parked next to it and spent the night. Fishing was great as you will see. But come to find out, the island that we were next to got big when the tide went out. The old pontoon was complety out of the water. Don't want to talk about the big one that got away.

Round 2

Well me and my son went back. Just father and son day. We had a bet on who was going to catch the biggest and the most fish.

We left at 7:30 today. (I was still on call until 8:00). Left the dock, smooth river no wind. After about 30 min running ran into a bad fog bank. Another 45 min, the good ole fishing hole. We got the poles wet. My little man caught the first 2 just barely keepers. (red) So after about an hour, seen a couple of dolphins swimming by and playing around. We started clapping and one stuck his back fin out and started slapping the water. It was awsome. Then about 1/2 hour, a 10 foot aligator swam by. He must of have been lost.  So back to fishing. So now a couple of more reds in the ice chest (caught by dad and son). We both caught the same amount and size so we were tied.  We both have lost a BIG one. So as we were calling a day, my pole almost looked like it was going to break. So I pulled back, after about 20 min got him to the boat. As my little man got the net, of course the net got caught in the line and he could not get it under the fish. So we both pulled him to the front of the boat wich was pushed in the mud. He got off the hook, but was in very shallow water, he could not swim off but was trying like crazey. Looked like he was going to make it. My son took off his shoes, socks and jumped in. As he was landing in the mud and water, He shouted THIS ONE WILL NOT GET AWAY. I can say, the big one was in the ice chest 26' red. Kinda makes a man proud. So we both caught the big one, we are tied. A great team and the end of a awsome day.  Father and son style.

We were so proud of ourselves, (team work). We forgot to take pic's. So no pic's this time.

So until next time (tomorrow)  We will take pic's.

Yeah, gator will get in salt water.  We used to see them in the Trinity Bay portion of Galveston Bay along the east shore.  Lots of swampy areas

Round 3

Well we went back Sat. Left the house a little late (the wind was blowing hard).

Wind died down, so we loaded up and left the house. Got to our spot around 1:30, no sun. Water was great. Had my son and my daughter. No pics of fish this time. Cannot brag for anything. Not a bite. Something kept stealing our bait, ( must have been crabs).

So no fish, just a great day on the water with the kids.

Until next time. Everyone enjoy the week.

I sure do miss fishing for those reds and flounder. Have yet to catch a trout though down there. But I gotta ask, I never kept those salty cats and just considered them a pest, or are those of the fresh water variety and just happen to catch them in brackish waters?

That was the first time I have fished in saltwater. I did find them hard to clean. So I can say, (they did not make it in the pot). I do now find them a pest. I will not ever keep them little pest again, I have learned my lesson. I will for now on, mark my words 'only cats in my boat is fresh water.'

Still looking for that flounder

Round 4

Well we went out this past Saturday. Sun nice and hot, smooth seas. Wife and I, little girl and a friend. Fished all day. Didn't catch our limit on red fish, but I caught the big one. Took about 45 min to get him in. Had a great time. Spent most of the time working on the wife's reel. Time for a new one. After the red stopped bitting, we went back up river to catch some catfish, caught a lot of them. Beleave it or not, we caught a few red where we were catching cat.

Got to love fishing from a Pontoon.....

I'm with Judge -- sheepshead.  Charles has been away from the coast for too long!  Maybe next year's get together (can't spell rendevouz) will help get him re-oriented to saltwater!

Round 6

You will never belive

Best fishing story ever. Me and the adults went out fishing yesterday. I was fishing on the bottom  with my sons pole out the back of the pontoon. And I had my pole with a bobber drifting where ever the current wanted to take it. Clear skys, smooth as glass seas. I walked to the front of the boat heard a noise, as I turned around, SPLASH there went my sons pole, in the water. Gone. Now I half to buy my son a new pole, and tell him what happened to his. About 30 min. later, my pole started making a noise, something on the line. I started pulling in in, of course it came off. As I was dragging the bobber in, it caught another line, could it be possiable, my sons line?? NO WAY.  So I grab the line and started pulling on it, what do you know, it was connected to my sons pole. I was happy to get my sons pole back. So I dipped it the water to wash the mud off and started to reel the line in, something started to pull back. The fish that took the pole was still on it. A large gaft top. Could not belive it.

So I caught a fishing pole with my pole, and the pole I caught still had the fish on it.

Need less to say, we caught 5 keeper reds and about 10 gaft tops and a fishing pole.

pics to follow....

My My son went fishing yesterday, Sunday, and this is what he caught. A 7+ foot Goliath Grouper at least 400 pounds plus. No big scale on the boat but they had a tape measure. It was protected species so they had to let it go.
