My first posting; I recently purchased a 1988 Bass Buggy about a week ago. I didn't notice at the time of purchase that there seems to some water in the pontoons. My questions are how do I remove the water? Is this common? Any help will do!

Yes it is common....Take a small hose and put into the vent ports on top of the tubes and siphon the water out....Then check for any cracks in the welds and have an aluminum welder weld and pressure test the logs..........

I will be pressure testing my logs this weekend to test for leaks and then remove the rollers and replace with rails. When I searched pontoonstuff for info on pressure testing I found lots of interesting information. One of the threads used to have pics of a self made pressure plug but the link is no longer working. From the information here is what I put together tonight and hopefully it will work when I use it this weekend. The plug on the end of my log is 3/4' I purchased a pvc plug and then went looking for a schrader valve. My problem was that the valves were not threaded to the base of the valve so I had no way to lock it in place and the valve stems for tubless tires would not work either. I went down to the local bike store they had shrader valves but again no threads except where the cap goes on. They showed me a presta bike tube valve and is threaded all the way down. The tube was $4.5 and then a small brass adapter that allows you to fill the presta valve with a regular tire gauge. I cut the valve out drilled a hole in the pvc plug, tightend the the valve down and then used silicone sealer on the insde and out to seal it. I am going to presurise the log in small increments and use my digital tire guage to monitor the pressure so I don't go past the 2-3lbs pressure. I am thinking this will work and it cost me a whole $6 for the parts and pieces. I'll make me a nice slurry of soapy water and hopefully find no leaks

Some don't have removable plugs but they are usually on the lower back of the toon.

My Party Barge has baffles between the sections of my pontoons with removeable plugs on top of each section, except for the nose cones. I had H2O in the nose cones that had entered through some small cracks that developed where the vertical deck supports are welded to the top of the pontoon. Since I couldn't use a siphon I drilled a small hole at the lowest point - drained for about 10 minutes ! Had the cracks and my drain hole welded up when I started my rebuild.
An option if the siphon doesn't work for you. Good luck!

Thanks to all on this project.
After finding the vents at the top of the tube. I purchased a drill operated pump and some clear tubing I was able to siphon the water out. I got out 3 gallons of water from the one tube. Next project step is to find out where the leak is and fix it.
Again Thanks To All!!!

The plugs for that boat should be in the middle of those pontoons. Depending on the age and sun damage, the plugs should be bright red to a faded red, almost like a pink. My parents had an 87 Party Barge and that was the location of theirs. They were sealed off pretty good. It looks like a 3/8' to 7/16' wrench would fit it, if not, a pair of pliers.

Thanks for the pics--going to be helpful for a lot of folks needing to pressure test. If you can, would you post a pic of how you integrated the digital tire pressure gauge? And where did you find it? I went to one of the big auto parts stores and they said they didn't have a monitor that would read as low as 1-3 psi.

How about this one, measures 1-15lb in 1/4lb increments and for under $20 and here's another one that's even more precise (more money)

I wonder what it sounded like when it let go, and how far that end cap went. Yikes!
