Thanks Rick-
Doesn't the second one mount to the railing of the boat ? I saw that one and really couldn't tell a lot on whether it would work like I need it to...
Where do the 2 type 479 cables attach to?

They both would bolt to a plate, piece of wood or something similar that is bolted to the rail. You would need to fabricate something for this if you don't already have anything to bolt it to. You can see the bolt pattern on the control in the picture. The cables enter at the bottom rear and attach inside the control.

I actually like the looks of this one and it was the same price, although shipping was a tad higher, looks more 'modern' and pleasing to the eye.

So, do you think I can mount this to the side of this console that I'd be putting in the center of the boat? Maybe just below the vinyl on the right side? I think one can put the handle on the other side? Maybe the cables can come up inside the helm and exit just below it?
Doesn't the key go in the end just above where you have the cables entering? Is that the back end or front? If I'm right handed, and I sit in the seat, my thumb should be on the trim button, yes? I'm having a hard time visualizing how that would be oriented. If the control as pictured would bolt up to the right side of the ......
Ahhhhhhh, it just clicked- this control is not designed to bolt as pictured to the helm, but to something to the right of the helm, like the fence.... so, how could I make it work for a center console.... maybe just switch the handle to the other side and let my pinkie do the trimming... it would keep that trim button away from the thumb of folks who don't realize they are pressing the trim one way or another....
I wonder how it would look....

You could reverse handles on any side mount control for left or right hand attachment. And no Earl, it won't work for you but it could with an adapter.

I may be quick on the draw, but usually forget why I drew in the first place , sometimes I run real fast, but 2 yr olds pass me easily, but with all the huffing and puffing, I'm running 3.9 in a 40, although actual timing is more like 30-60 seconds depending on when the huffing slacks and the puffing gives out

Just ordered the other helm as shown in the earlier posting, as well as the new remote control from the 2nd link that Rick provided. I agree with the WCD that it looks better than the 1st one. Thanks again.
I know how much you like pictures, so I'm obligated to provide...
Anyone interested in a slightly used console? It splits in half for easy shipping...

You know, that some interesting corner structure pieces there, with that pic, those frame supports, 1/4in plexiglass for the gauge cluster, somebody could make themselves a pretty good console.

As I started going through stuff, I did take note of the hardware I should retain for possible future usage, and those supports were on the list to keep.

I'm thinking of making some type of shelf to be just above where I will be mounting the new fuel tank in the horseshoe area- Thinking about placing the batteries and the oil reservoir on it, eliminates having to put the batteries on the inside of the rear corners.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Will you still be able to get to your primer bulb? Or does that motor not really require one (electronic fuel type?)

Got off work a little early this afternoon...
The replacement helm came in today, I think it looks so much better than the other, and it fits a lot better.

I really like the openness...

X marks the spot, the saying goes...

Here's the replacement fuel tank, I still need to strap it down- QUESTION: do I need a spill tray to put it on in case of any leaks? If so, where can I find one? I also want something under the tank, as the trim edge sticks up some, and is a chaffing contact point.

Here is where the old tank was stored, I was going to replace that panel that has the hole, but the rest of the boat does NOT have any panel at that level, so I'll just remove it, and will try to use it for the top level of the horseshoe...

Spent the rest of the time cleaning the inside of the fence, those magic erasures sure work great... going to either wax or 303 the inside panels where the furniture goes before I bolt them in, also 303 the vinyl seats as well. Managed to get the original fence braces reinstalled-

This one is right next to to front 50' seat, so it sticking out as much as it does is not an issue. However, on the other side of the gate, there is no furniture, and I was concerned about a tripping hazard, so I ordered a left and right brace from PontoonStuff to use to minimize how far out it sticks- They do not come pre-drilled, and are a fixed right-angle triangle, so if you need to adjust the fence a hair off vertical to keep the gate from dragging on the carpet, you aren't going to do it with these. I ended up using the originals for these positions as well. The problem of them sticking out and being a trip hazard will be eliminated as I will mount the fold up ladder adjacent to one, and will mount a decent sized fire extinguisher adjacent to the other one. One will *have* to walk around the ladder and extinguisher...

That's all for now. Next significant steps will be to drill through 4 cross members under the boat so I can snake the steering and throttle cables diagonally so I can use the existing cables without spending another $200 or so for new longer ones. The new side mount throttle that I bought through eBay should be in, so getting that and the steering mounted is a good next step as well. I see a hole saw kit on sale for less than $4 that will do up to 5 inch holes, click here, that will come in handy for the larger hole under the helm.
Until next time....

Yep, those hole saw kits do the trick for a lot of stuff I do. Good work and never noticed the boat name on the panels before - looks good. Are you going to get a permanent fuel sender to install in the fuel tank? I've been thinking of getting a tank like yours and have seen these senders that should fit and replace those gas sight caps. Could you take a closer pic of that gas cap area?

Will do WCD. I'm not planning to get a sender, I think it would be easy enough to look at the cap which has an integrated gauge. But then again, who knows, I might do that as well, its not on the radar right now.
peppyjd, besides what I've already noted, I need to have the bimini tops replaced- I hear you can send in the existing to a company and they will use that as a pattern to make replacements. Of course, sometime I want to get the toons really polished, that seems to be a common thing to do, plus it will look really sharp.

1st, WCD here's the pic you asked for-

1st order of the day was to wax the fencing behind the seats so I could bolt them at will, (which I haven't done yet, what's the best way?)- I did not get any screws with any of the seats to screw them to the deck... I wonder what's up with that...

Next was actually putting that big hole in the decking, figured I had to do it sometime....

Next was snaking that steering cable diagonally, decided to drill straight through each crossmember, that's why it came out kind of zig-zaggy. Used a step bit from that cheap chinese store which worked great (strange, you can post a link somewhere but cannot say their name....)

I reused the old boot, still need to get some cable hold-downs-

That cheap chinese hole saw set from you know where came in real handy today.

Why stop now, there are plenty of holes to make....

Got the old steering assembly mounted, reused the plywood backing as well.

I had just enough cable...

Might as well continue making more holes...

Did I mention that that hole saw set came in real handy?

Looking good, like a gauge panel should. It would have been nice to have gotten some mounting screws with it.... dug through and found some for now. Note to self, do not lock down the steering wheel until everything is mounted.

Notice the gauge in the lower left? It's specific to the motor. There was an empty space, and it fit perfectly. Now I know I don't need a fuel gauge on the dash. Think you noticed that the panel might be crooked? Nope, it's not, the vinyl on each side kind of tapers as you go up, plus the angle of the camera.
Bringing up the cables from the motor...

Now I just have to find what goes where...

I forgot, I put this on before I cut that first hole, I wanted to see where it would come when down in the stow position. It rests right across the cup holders on the helm, so I didn't have to move anything.

Ignore the green color, will be replacing with a burgundy color sometime...
Well, that's all for today, and I'm skipping tomorrow and next weekend, will resume for sure on the 27th. I want to get it in the water before the July 4th weekend, so the next critical item will be the remote. It's scheduled for delivery on Wednesday. Again, just like the steering cables, I plan to run the throttle and shifter cables in a diagonal manner.
Later.

You really got some big ticket items done today pritch! What is that cheap chinese company again? lol. J/K. I think it's really difficult to put that first hole in, after that, a peice of cake and just a step in the process. I have these aluminum sundeck boxes...and a couple of weeks ago I found myself cutting out rectangular vents, circular vents, boots and charger inlets. All means to an end. Your console looks fantastic...kudos to you!
BTW...I didn't get hardware to fasten the seats to the deck either. I went to the 'other' boating place that starts with an 'o' as they are in with gander mountain and bought about 50 SS screws and fender washers for about $15 total.
So with the wax....what does that do?

Yep, I had bought a boat load of SS screws, washers, machine screws, nuts, etc. because I knew that I'd need them. (addon) you know, I was gonna ask the same thing about the wax, what's up with that?

That wax is (IMHO) the best thing since sliced bread- with the one bottle, I've waxed the truck and van and boat (when it was worthwhile to wax) for the last 3+ years- a little goes a long way, it doesn't build up, it's a cleaner / wax. You can even wax your motorcycle exhaust if you wanted with it. Anyhow, before I lock the seats down, I wanted to make everything look nice behind them.
Can't you see just how clean that 7 year old fence looks behind that bottle of wax?

Ummmm, interesting, and I have seen what was behind my seats after 20+ years, but the fence itself was just dull, besides what I don't see , I won't see and I'll be dead and gone before the next person takes those seats off. (well, maybe)

pritch, the rebuild looks like it's coming along nicely. You've done a super job by the way it looks! I jotted the name of that wax down, cause I am going to give it a try, if I can find it.

WCD, I'm not saying that I'd pull the seats to clean behind, but while I'm redoing everything it falls in line with starting off again with clean everywhere.
Thanks toonrider, that wax may seem expensive when you buy it, but a little really does go a long way, so in the end I dont feel its any more than anything else. I paid $29 plus shipping back on Jan 7, 2007 for that bottle, and it's still between 1/3 and 1/2 full. I misspoke earlier when I said I had it for 3+ years, it's actually about 2 1/2 years. Google those 2 words and you'll get back many hits.
Link to that wax

ok- back in town and will continue the boat project-
Whats the best way to secure the seats to the deck? Just pick a few spots and stick some screws in? Don't think I received any screws with the seats for this....
