Oh and I moved your post to where you should ask general forum questions like this

WCD - there are a few really good open source forum
software packages out there released under the GNU Public
license that even allows free commercial use (distribution
may be limited) of the software. Many times it is even
possible to migrate one forums database layout to the
other, thus preserving all the forums, posts, etc.

I could assist with the research and migration as well if
needed...

Don't ask me, but they've already planned to purchase the latest and greatest of this particular forum software. I think though the answer will be no, because currently the forum database is intertwined with the their current customer database which they guard and won't let outsiders see. Their webmaster and current database admin will attend to it once their season winds down (late Sept/Oct or later). Contact Jim and Andrea Myers, but I'm sure they'll leave that up to Nicole if she needs assistance, she'll ask for it but you could let them know of your assistance if needed. Even I am not allowed access to the database (and I don't blame them either).

ah - didn't realize that the forum database and customer
database are intertwined. Usually the forum databases are
completely separate. I don't want to see their customer
database. I see too much Personally Identifiable
Information (PII) in my day job - I don't want to see it in
any of my hobbyist activities :-)

Me either but that's how I found out because I was wanting access to the forum database so I could capture a particular individual who was constantly (was daily, but now more like a fortnight - or two weeks for you yanks)  as the brits would say. Yes, that's been the real problem all along. Whoever intially installed the forum software, did not completely uninstall before they attempted another install, not once, but 3 times which really made a mess of it and that's why sometimes the photo's get buggered up because there's an alternate config locatoin for photos to be stored. When that happens, I found I can correct it by saving the pics and reloading them for the user. I'm really looking forward to the databases getting separated so I can do some tweaking and eventually get access to the logs and capture details of hacking attempts. Its what I do on my regular job, review logs of all 20+ servers on a daily basis, then take any corrective measures on those servers, or firewall restrictions. Our TV station setup is what gives me grief - (mostly apple stuff and the TV guy is clueless so lets any vendor modify his stuff for access and we don't allow backdoor access). Gets funny sometimes when he calls in a huff and puff - I just point to our access and usage policies for vendors and direct him to our IT Director (who he really hates). I just started again on the SQL Servers last year, but I still consider myself very rusty since its been 1998 when I last work SQL v6.5. Just getting into .NET as well, not my cup of tea I'll tell you. I just as soon stick with servers, routers, switches, access databases and support work, but you do what you're told to do. Plus I probably put in 25-40hrs on the forum, emails, daily maintenance etc. Lot better than it was last year when I was putting about 60+ hrs a week working on the forums. But got some really good guys helping out now.
