Just wanted to post a picture of our new toy. As I mentioned in an earlier topic I have a few plans to modify it and well be counting heavily on your ideas and tips and suggestions. I would like to extend the rear roof to eliminates the top piece of canvas and just have wrap around canvas on the sides and back. I'm also looking for some ideas on the type of mirros I could mount if any of you have done such a thing. I'm also looking for suggestions on microwaves generators and space saving ideas because we would like to do a bit of camping. Anyhow I look forward to sharing ideas and hearing your thoughts on how I could go about making these changes. Thanks Paul

How efficient is your boat set up now? In ours where we live is so far north that in reality air conditioning really isn't necessary. As such we really didn't want to lug around and listen to a generator running, personally I hate them for many reasons myself probably because I've been forced to listen to others generators running way to often. Instead we set ours up with efficient LED lighting, and use propane for cooking and warming water and such. Propane is relatively safe with pontoon style houseboats because there's no hull for fumes to accumulate in, and in most areas pretty easy to replenish should you run out. We installed a couple of extra batteries for extended use of 12 volt power, lites, stereo, etc. And we make out quite well and have immensely enjoyed our boat all summer. Please post some more pictures of you boat along with your thoughts of what you need to make your boat comfortable for your boating pleasure.

Also what part of the country you're in, just in case I missed that. briankinley2004 lives in Louisiana so his is setup the way it sounds like you'd like to have yours (mirrors, generator, AC unit, etc) and his is a 28ft.

I'm not sure about inverters but if your just wanting to run a microwave that may be the way to go. As Charles said I have a generator and A/C with the generator being mounted on the roof. It makes it difficult to find a storage shed for it but as you probably already know with a Party Hut this is difficult anyway. I can't find any on the lake that will fit mine on the trailer w/o generator as its over 13'. Its pretty much too hot down here to enjoy an enclosed cabin in the summer without a/c and almost intolerable in an open one as Charles and the rest of the folks at the forum meeting can attest. I hate to hear it run too but its a necessity if you don't have good airflow in this humidity. I got my mirrors at Academy. They are basic multi-position ski mirrors and were about 16 bucks each. I mounted one on each side on the exterior and one inside similar to a car rear view mirror. In this pic you can see the generator, a/c and barely catch one of the mirrors mounted near the side window.

Thanks for the info. Where we live there is no need for airconditioning. The reason I want to extend the roof at the back is I think I'd like to have the option of having the overhead cover and the additional headroom in the back. Also to have that extra deck space up top would'nt hurt either. I also think it would be quite comfortable on a nice day to have the side canvas out and the shade that the hardtop would provide. When I finally figure out what I need material wise to do this I will be taking pictures of the work in progress. I want to thank Briankinnley2004 for the info on the mirrors. I thought about the reverse camera idea that I've seen on other projects on this site, but it seems like such an expense for something I won't use alot. Our boating season isn't as long as it is in the US. Thanks again Paul

It was probably my 32PC that you saw the backup camera on. To be honest, it was VERY inexpensive to do via eBay and knowing what to look for. The problem that I had with the mirrors (which came on my boat) is that they are easy to knock off, especially if you 'raft up' a lot, like we do.
I had an AIMS 1250W 'Modified Sine Wave' inverter on the boat for a while. It will/would run the microwave, but you need to set the microwave cooking times for about twice as long due to the fact that it's really a 'square wave' inverter. I replaced the AIMS with a Xantrex Prosine 1800, which is a wonderful unit. It's 'pure sine wave' and all of my electronic gear (computers, stereos, routers, microwave, TV, etc..) love it. I have recently picked up a Xantrex Prosine 2.0 (2000W) and I will be replacing the 1800 over the winter. The 2.0 has a very high quality built-in charger and a transfer switch. I have a charger and XFer switch on the boat right now, but it will be nice to have an integrated unit.
The other beauty of the 2.0 is that it has an 'equalization charge mode' that has done an excellent job of 'bringing back' deep cycle batteries that I thought were long gone.
