Alright guys and gals, I need your expertise! Some of you have probably seen my rebuild photos of my 240 Harris I posted on here a while back. Well, I scored big time this past weekend. Thanks to Craigslist! I got me a 115hp motor in an incredible deal. This is the max size engine for my boat. Here is my question, the boat prob. weighs in the neighborhood of 2000 lbs (guessing with 3/4 plywood furniture) what pitch prop will give the best performance / speed on this boat? Also, what is likely to be the top speed I can expect? I was only able to achieve 15 mph by my self with the 50 hp merc. on it. Any advice or assistance, as usual, is always greatly appreciated.

www.dansdiscountprops.com shows a recommendation of 13-1/4 x 17 or 13-1/4 x 19. I also updated your signature so it'd help when you ask these types of questions in the future - you never mentioned the motor year of manufacture on either motor. Also be sure to use a GPS when checking speed (don't rely on a speedo - they are not accurate). Do be aware though you will be sucking 3-4 times as much gas for probably less than double the speed gain. I use to go 3-4 days on a tank of gas with my Force 40hp, that went to just less than 2hrs with the 115.

Oh and by the way, if you're not sure of the maintenance of this motor, be sure to change the impeller and inspect the water pump, and change that lower unit oil.

Thanks for the inputs guys! sorry for the missing info. I have not confirmed the year as of yet but I believe it is a mid 80's Mercury 115. I was sure it would burn more gas.. wasnt really expecting that much though..WoW! oh well thats the price you pay for fun! .. I am looking for as much speed as possible and also be able to pull the kids on a tube. by the way.. Thanks for the maintenance tip.. always good stuff!
