I was just wondering if anyone is using or has used moisture absorbers in their seat storage areas or anywhere moisture accumalates? My front two storage areas and under the seats do get moisture in them which in turn causes odors plus I don't want the materials inside getting mildewed. I should have left it covered but even then it doesn't stop all moisture. Got one more trip coming before I cover it up (if I get it dry enough). Looks like it'll be next year before I'll get that enclosure I want (2 or 3 surgeries coming up in Dec). I've found several products for moisture absorbers, but if you have recommendations, I'm listening. Also - any con's to using them?

Try looking for small round vent covers at a home repair supply store, like a Home Depot, etc. Ours carries some small round ones, which are about 3' circles. The get a hole saw and drill a couple of 2-1/2' holes and mount the vent covers over them. Now you'll get some air flow and it will dry out and stay fresh.
Air flow, or really lack of air flow is your issue.
Edit=> a soffit vent is what your looking for. Look for the smallest one available. You might even find a square one. Our store has them in white, brown, and plain aluminum. It will probably have some screen wire on the back of them to prevent bugs from getting in, which would be an added benefit.
Also, I put up a small section of closet rod in out garage. After every trip, i remove all life vest and flotation cushions and hang them up so they will dry and not get musty smelling. It's right by the door so I can grab them and head out.

Yeah, but I'm talking about a LOT of moisture, seat bases get up to a quart of water (each) during all the rain we've been getting inbetween a day or two of sunshine, we've been getting 5-7 days of rain. Sunshine is out till Wednesday (letting it dry out now), but rain in the forecast again for another week. Guess I'll just put the cover on Wednesday afternoon (last day of sunshine for a while), but I want it to stay dry. Oh, I got those 2in vent covers, got them for the battery compartment seat base. Yeah, I might do that for the other seats to vent them but that still won't alleviate the moisture buildup (if I don't keep it covered), so figured those moisture absorbers will help with that but at least the vents should help keep it odor free. Bass Pro has those vents I like.

You can add a floor drain in all your seat bases too. Then the water will simply run out to the ground.

Hey Wildcat. I have used them in my basement due to the few gallons of aquarium water running though the house. I doubt they would do a lot of good. They only absorb from the moisture in the air and, you have to pour the water out of the cup from time to time on the ones I used. When our boat sat out with the same seats, we had to use the shop-vac to suck the water out after a storm everytime. It was a real pain in the behind too! I'm not sure of permanent solution for you buddy.

Well, that's kinda what I thought, so adding vents to them won't hurt none but should keep them aired out somewhat. Adding drains now with the aluminum underskinning, water won't have anywhere to go unless I can keep it bouncing down the road

You might be able to plumb a drain somewhere. I'd sure give it a try. Do you keep some sort of cover over it? Sounds like it's getting alot of rainwater in there.

I do when I know I'm not going to be using it for a while, but this year the weather has been very unpredictable. LOTS of rain. My normal spring fishing was totally wiped out because we had rain non-stop for 40 days and I'm not into getting wet like I use to . We got back from Arkansas, and I was busy trying to get things done, but weather sure didn't want to cooperate any (or my left knee or left hand or both)

What if you installed a drain like in a regular vhull boat then you can pull the plug when the boat is not in use?
If you have a cover, I would highly recommend you put that on more often. I know it is a real pain sometimes but 5 minutes at the end of your day is little to pay for protecting your investment till you can get your enclosure.

Yep, won't be adding any drains, since the underskinning is on and I don't want to remove it now to just add drains , so now that the boat had a chance to get dry over the last 3 days, wife and I got the cover back on before the heavy rains return today. Now some moisture absorbers might be handy for some minor dampness over the winter months and eventually I'll be adding those Bass Pro vents (shows one, but they are a pair of them) to the seats like I installed in the seat and console compartment where the batteries are located. Oh well, was hoping we'd get out this weekend for our last shot. So it'll set up now until early spring (around March for us).
