Hi all,

I am planning to check my toons for leaks in this off season coming up and I have started to plan and gather the parts I need to do that job. So far, I have come up with a good way to fill my toons--I bought 1/2 ' PVC plugs and drilled a hole in them and tapped them to hold schrader valves made for filling air shocks. These valves come already threaded and with a cap. I found them on ebay by typing in 'schrader valve'.  I also plan to get the guage that WCD has given a link to in a previous topic on checking for leaks. My question is what will provide me with the proper source of air to fill the toons to 2-3 PSI. I was wondering if those compressers you plug in your cigerette lighter outlet in a car to fill tires would work? Any suggestions or ways others filled thiers would be appreciated.

Thanks Hal

They would work but it will take you longer to do it.

Hal,

My guess is the compressor you are talking about will probably burn out before you get 2 lbs on one toon. I use a compressor with a 5 gal tank and it still takes a long time to fill up the tubes. You might want to rent a compressor unless you can borrow from someone that has a  much bigger compressor than what you have. By the way I keep 2 lbs of air on my toon all the time because it helps from getting dented when I bump on a dock. Also if I check and there is no air left I know I have a leak somewhere.

How are you able to monitor the air pressue in your pontoons? Do you have a pressure guage permanently installed in them?

Thanks,

Mike
