I am thinking of getting a trolling motor to put on my 24 foot Harris Kayot with a 90 Johnson.  How much thrust should I get at a minimum to fish our large lake in S.C?

55ft lb would be sufficient in 12volt, or you can go with 68/70ft in 24volt. I really like the MinnKota Powerdrive's as the pedal is a LOT more comfortable (not big and hunky like some pedals), its low profile. The 55ft lb will definitely move you for a while (one good battery, or two if you use it a LOT). Just my opinion of course.

Thanks Charles, I was a motor cop in Fla myself before going into the Navy during Vietnam.  I will try to find a used Minnkota for the toon.

Both of mine were version 1 models, which is a little harder to find now, most are version 2 (more expensive) as the last one I got off of craigslist for $200 (only 6 months old). Wish you luck on finding one at a good price.  So did you go back to LE after the Navy stint? Stayed in the Navy?

No, went back to school and got a BA in criminal justice, then moved to Atlanta and went to work for McKesson drugs for 15 years.  Now retired on lake Keowee in Seneca S.C.-best move I ever made!!!  I will check craigslist for the Atlanta area and see if I can round one up-thanks for the info.  Fran
