I was talking to Jim Myers, President/Owner of www.pontoonstuff.com today and during the course of the conversation I told him how I eventually came to the forums. He found it interesting and thought it would be fun to see how everyone else came about viisting/joining here - so how about it folks - tell us what brought you here. I'll go first with my history.
I started by looking specifically for armrests that I could attach to the seats, as some of you know, my wife is handicapped and can't get up without assistance if she isn't high enough to push up and something to hold onto. So the search was on and since I do a lot of shopping on ebay, I found the armrests I was looking for. Made the purchase and while I was looking at the sellers info, noticed that he had an ebay store, so I visited it, and discovered he had a web site. Naturally being the techie dude I am, checked out the web store and found he also had a real store - web site also showed he had a forum. Well I've been to other boating forums and just didn't find the 'feeling' I had with this site. I've been to www.iboats.com and even bought stuff from them too (hard to find items) but I kept coming back here even after some folks talked about Deck & Pontoon Mag forums. But yet, I kept coming back here and I finally joined the forums. Haven't looked back since and the folks here on the forums were just great. So was pontoonstuff.com as the product I bought on ebay arrived within 3 days - very very quick for an ebay purchase. I've learned since then, that's a pretty much standard practice for www.pontoonstuff.com and good prices too. I can't express how much I really appreciated the folks here on the forum and especially the staff at PontoonStuff during the last 3 weeks I've come to know since they made me one of the forum admins. I want to make this the best forum site you guys could ever enjoy and with your help I will.
Thanks so much - Charles
Now tell us how you made your way here if you don't mind - Jim and the staff would really like to know (so would I).

I'm first , I'm First. O Happy Day to Me
I had to rebuild my old Tooner or buy a new one so I like many others hit the internet air ways.
Best I can remember I went to my search engine and typed in something like 'pontoon parts & forum'. that lead me to two sites. I put both on my front page so I could check them out better.
Sorry, but I joined the other site first , but later found out that Pontoonstuff was the BETTER site.
I have received alot of great info from this site and yes bought a few items for my rebuild that is on hold at the moment. Mybe in 1 or 2 more weeks I will hear something and get back at it if things go south, but I'm still in the running.
Still doing alittle on the toon, work-no. Calling and finding things ,yes.
Found a guy that will rebuild my 75hp evinrude for around $500, complete. That is if the foot is ok. But I have found a foot for $50.
Just want to say that this is the BEST PONTOON SITE on the WEB.

I'm very active on some truck forums and have made some great friends because of them. It only seemed natural to join a boat forum when I started shopping for a pontoon boat.
I googled 'pontoon boat forum' and it brought me here .

Since Jim made some of us admins and we in turn got some guys to be moderators, I want us to be sure we welcome everyone because we all just a big family of pontooners here to learn and share what we've learned |

Thanks for the welcome. 'Wildcat' wouldn't happen to mean Kentucky Wildcats would it? (I've been wanting to ask that ever since I joined)
I've looked over the pontoon stuff site. It looks like a user friendly site with pretty good prices. I just ordered a rear corner cap from a dealer and am going to have to pay about 3 times what they sell for on there. Next time, I'll check before ordering anything from a dealer. It's a fairly new boat, I hope I don't need any parts for a while but if I do, I'll give pontoon stuff the first shot.
As for this site, I love reading all of the tips and experiences of more seasoned boaters. I've been around boats for several years and owned 2 ski boats but this is my first pontoon boat. It's certainly easier/cheaper to learn by reading rather than screwing up.

Ain't that the truth (about screwing up). No actually I derived my nym from the days of early 1990's just before I retired from law enforcement (1994) I became even more interested in IBM compatible computers (which I tinkered with since early 80's) and that in turn got me interest in Bullentin Board Services (BBS) (1993) back in the days of 1200baud (then got up to 28.8k baud) and eventually ISDN connections on a software package from Mustang Software called Wildcat BBS, thus I took the nym of Wildcat Dude on the BBS mail system.

Like most everyone else, I was searching for deck materials and came across the site. I probably visited the site for a week or two just looking at different parts/accessories when I noticed the link to the forum at the top. Soon as I found it I joined up.
Whenever I get into a new hobby, first thing I do is search out forums to join, I find it's probably the best source of info for just about any hobby/project. I also frequent a Jeep forum, motorcycle forum, fishing forum, and now this one. Love it!

I am on several other forums including, Snowmobileforum.com & Iboats.com, also a few others.
When I decided to buy a pontoon I was looking for a pontoon specific forum to ask some questions before buying. So I asked a question on iboats.com and there were two different sites that people recommended and I chose this one based on the layout of the site and how it was geared directly towards pontoons only.
There was another site that I was told about that was for pontoons and deckboats(I am not going to say the name) but I felt this one would better suit my needs.

I first came across this board by following a link from the member lakescraft. He was trying to sale his Toon on Craigs list and had sent me a link to here to see pictures of it. I started to read some of the other topics and realized what a great group of people are here. I have been on a bunch of boards and it never fails, you always have trolls and trouble makers. you guys seem to avoid that and I have to say kudo's for that. I have posted my first toon project on here because I thought it was too much of a project for me to take on for my first rebuild. We purchased another toon and are enjoying it. But to be honest after looking at all their is to see on this board I am starting to think that if the boat does not sale soon, I might just keep it and try to make it my dream escape. I have come to realize that what I don't know, I can get the info from the members here and the host at http://www.pontoonstuff.com

Thanks Tree, I can't tell you how much I and the other guys appreciate that kind of feedback and we want the best for 'all' our members. I and the guys know we can't please everyone all the time, but we truly want it to be the best for all concerned because of what we've seen and experienced elsewhere. Plus I want to make everyone feel welcomed and we do have really great members (at least in my opinion), plus I also want it to be a winner for Jim and Andrea, our great hosts for giving us the opportunity to assist our members when they are so busy with their thriving business to continue to give the great service they and their staff do on a daily basis. I got to meet Jim and Andrea in person today after driving up from the Nashville, TN area (10 total hrs) and they gave me that same warm feeling from the first time I got to know them here on the boards and through several phone calls after they appointed Mike (Vescom1 who I owe a great deal of thanks for recommending me for this position), Chris (Riverboat, who before I started yaking my head off - had the most number of helpful posts for way longer than me, who's always been very helpful to everyone) and myself. I just feel fortunate enough that they have the philosphy on what they wanted the board to do, and I (and others who prod me with ideas or help me stretch my ideas even more) hope I can do them proud. Again - my thanks to you and many others.

I found the form on the site while priceing products I needed. I got a great cover for the boat from pontoonstuff at a good price. i also got some guide ons ' The guide ons from Hell' that now lay in the pasture. of course I know they just sell it they don't make it, and it was a good learning experiance for me. pontoonstuffs customer service is great, they ship quick and prices are good. and the form is a big plus lots of knowlegable, helpfull folks to help minimize those learning experiances. D.

Welcome aboard Bill, and please do post some pictures either in Show Off Your Pontoon or if you happen to have before and after pictures, please show us your proud hard work in Pontoon Rebuild Projects. I'm glad I was able to help you out with your registration difficulties. I see you've already taken care of your signature line . Riverboat lives up in your neck of the woods but I'm not sure how close he is.
Since you've already been to the store, be sure to send an email for the decals if you didn't get them in your order, as they just arrived last week. I think you definitely qualified for both the large and the bumper sticker types with your order. Just email andrea@pontoonstuff.com (Andrea Myers aka pontoongirl), and say Andrea, wildcat dude said I could get big and small decals because of my big order - how about it (and get several while you're at it).

I think I found this site while searching for a less expesive pontoon boat idea. I had thought about building my own from a kit. I was looking for furniture and found pontoonstuff. I didn't join the forums until just recently. The information on this forum is great and I learn something new everytime i read it.

Hi folks...
Satch here and although I've been around for awhile I haven't gotten around to posting here on this topic so I thought it was about time...As mentioned in other post I'm a member on at least two other forums, iboats and PDB but I like it here at PontoonStuff by far the best...The main reason is that it seems that everyone from Jim and Andrea to wildcat dude and on down the line to people like me will go to any lengths to help each other out and that attitude makes boating that much more enjoyable...When the wife and I were looking for furniture for our pontoon that we were redoing, I looked locally as well as online and Jim and Andrea were the only ones that had what we needed and that was a way to actually see what we were buying....It seems that everyone else had a piece or two but for the most part we were going to have to buy site unseen....Not only did Jim and Andrea have everything, they had different sets set up for us to view and met us at their place of business not only on a weekend but a holiday weekend !!....It was a good drive from Charlotte NC to there but well worth the effort and the wife and I got to do some site seeing and Jim told us a great place to get some food and see the great lakes which we had never seen....Finding their site was a really worthwhile google search...lol We bought the complete set of furniture and as so many folks have said the order darn near beat us home !...You can't go wrong with these folks!!

Well...let me see, now. I was searching for something, probably fencing material, since that's what I wound up ordering, and was lead by Dogpile (I swear, that's a search engine!) to PontoonStuff.com, and spotted this forum on the site. I've been lurking about for a few days and finally decided to join and seek advice on locating trim for my rebuild project. The rest is...well, you know the rest!
This seems like a 'mighty fine' forum, at least from what I've seen so far. As Cousin Minnie Pearl would say, 'I'm just so proud to be here!' And, as Ahnold would say, 'I'll be back!'

WooHoo! I'm in!
My wife and I had met someone that was selling a 1980 Lowe 20' toon with a 70hp Johnson for $1k. I wasn't really thinking about getting a toon, but my wife said she had wanted one. We never really even talked about getting a boat at all! They put it up for sale, during their yard sale, on the Friday before Mother's day. I figured, if they hadn't sold it by Sunday, we'll take it. Sunday evening came and my wife wanted to know where the boat was! We went over there and baught it just as someone else was showing up with MORE than what he was asking for it...WHEW!
Anyway... not knowing a thing about pontoons, I hit the web, trying to gather as much info as I could. While looking for seats, decking, etc... I came across Pontoonstuff.com. WOW! Great prices and a nice assortment of STUFF for pontoons... and LOOK! A forum!

I found this forum while searching for info about pontoon boats and trolling motors.
The boat I bought had a perfectly good foot-controlled TM, but it put me on the bow
of the boat and limited my movement. I found out about and bought a minn-kota
with auto-pilot and co-pilot. Now I can move anywhere around the deck and
control the boat. The boys can have the bass seats on the front and my wife
and I can sit in comfort . It really is the nicest feature of the boat, I think.

Well someone has to be diferent.
When we bought our boat last summer the guy told us about this site. He did not mention anything about the forum. I like others like reading about others rebuild. Mine should be finished this weekend. (I am on a tight schedule) bought everything from pontoonstuff.

I have always been a speed boat or fishing boat person. I started looking around at the dock in Leesburg Florida (Lake Harris) one day at all the Pontoon Boat on the water that got me to thinking about buying one. I was looking at the room to move around on the deck, and the all the extra stuff on deck. I looked at a lot of different one not hard looking just looking. Then we made our annual trip to Sanibel Island, these trips started with my whole family and 25 years latter, the whole family still going. The different now I have grand children. I am blessed with the family I have, and for that I’m also thankful. This is the only thing that changed; Mom & Dad still pay for the trip. Any way last year my wife talked me into a sea shell trip. This was a one day trip to different islands to look for shells. When we get to the dock and meet the Captain, we along with about 15 other people load onto a Pontoon boat for a day of adventure. During this trip the Pontoon bug sunk his teeth into me and good. My mission in life was to seek out and buy a pontoon boat. I found a 1985 16 foot Harris with a 70 hp Evinrude, 1988 model that had just been rebuild with less the 40 hours on the motor(Paper work to prove it. 2500 dollars later I was on my way home with my first pontoon boat. (What are my buddies going to say)?
The little boat needed a little work, as the previous owner was a die hard fisher man, who only needed 3 seats on the boat. I got the boat home and went to work making this little pontoon boat a family pontoon boat. Named the boat “Smiling Dolphin” my grandson who is 5 years old, help me every chance he gets loves dolphins and sea world. Well my wife, grandson and I take the boat out on the lake and have a great time. It runs and looks like a new boat. It runs real fast with that 70 hp motor on it. We do the different lake thing several times, hitting all the different lakes here in Lake County Florida. Then my son and his wife want to go on the next trip, along with my best friend the hard charging off shore fisher man, my daughter & we throw in the mother in law for good measure. On the lake we go for a 4 hour night cruse. Man was this boat loaded and all that room I had was gone. So the search was on for a bigger boat, because I’m sure this is not a one time thing, I still have one more son and his wife were talking about going on the next trip. So I find a beat down 24 foot Fiesta with the only thing I could reuse are the pontoons. A lot more work needed on this boat, but for 200 dollars I could not go wrong. Well 8 months of working on this boat, it’s almost ready for the water again for the first time in 7 years. So my search to replace the entire interior landed me at Pontoon Stuff. I am now a die hard patriot of. These people have been great, and the shipping is at my gate in little to no time at all. I have talk with them about wiring issues. And they spon feed me the info. What a great bunch of people. While shopping on Pontoon Stuff home page I saw this page. And that’s how I landed here. Now I need to figure out how to post pictures.
Sorry if it a little long. But this is the readers digest version of how I got to this spot.

Thanks for the chance to talk about pontoon boats. I have owned my toon for about 6 years. I bought it from an older friend that just couldn't take care of it any more. He gave me a good deal and I've used it here in northern nevada every spring and summer except for last year and after this winter the interior was so ragity I just couldn't put it in the water. I started looking at it and it was really rotting away. the appolstery wes really cracked and just ruined the carpet on the derk was just dust and the wood in the seats was all coming apart. I will post picks as soon as the wife gets the camera. So I was surfing the net and I found this forum so I just couldn.t pass this up. I want to gather as much wisdom from others about rebuilding a pontoon. thanks agian, Red Dog

I currently have a 19' slickcraft and after using it several times my wife decided that it is to small when we want to have the extended family out for the weekend. so we are currently looking for a project toon to rebuild and i am the type of person that needs to plan things out before i do it. so started looking for information about rebuilding pontoons as i want to buy a cheap one and rebuild it to our wishes.

You're like me Jerry. I remembered when I first came and saw scbadivers rebuild project. I was in awe and now he's working on my new console for my rebuild project (slated for late Sept now)

I just bought a 21' 1995 Party barge that was sitting under a tarp at our local marina. We asked to look at it for the heck of it and it looked in great shape and the marina wanted it off the lot. So anyway a few days later I owned it and was looking for info on pontoon boats and parts. I searched the internet and found this site and was amazed by all the info I could find. I am sure I will be reading and posting questions often.
