I am sure everyone will hate me for this but I have to say it. I have seen it not only on this site but all of the forums I am on. The issue I have is understanding what some people are saying when they abbreviate feet and inches. The correct symbol for inches is '. The correct symbol for feet is '. It drives me crazy when someone says (I have a 28' pontoon with 25' round toons). This may not be the best example because it is clear what is actually meant by this but there are other situations that are much more difficult.

I really hope people don't shun me for this, I was just hoping to inform people of the correct way to do it.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.

EDIT: I GUESS I AM WRONG. SORRY I BLEW UP. IT ACCTUALLY APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FORUM. NO MATTER WHAT SYMBOL I PUT IT EDITS IT. IF I PUT ' IT CHANGES IT TO A SINGLE.

EDIT: See that was supposed to be a quotation mark and it shos up as an apostrophe.

You know, I didn't know it was the forum doing that because I had been wondering the same thing myself , I just thought folks (a lot of them ) were incorrectly inputting the wrong characters, so whenever I discuss anything related to length, I say ft. or in or inches to avoid confusion. 'lets see what this does' as apposed to ' for feet and ' for inches.

Edit: Yes, in preview it shows correctly, but once posted it doesn't. I'll bring that up in a meeting, send me an email regarding it (from my profile, you can just click email, it'll go).

I am not sure what you mean by 'just click email and it'll go, but I did send you a pm.

Going to send Andrea, Jim and Nicole D. an email right now while I'm thinking of it, I'll just point them to this link for referral of the problem. We'll see what's up.

Hi Gang

Ah, the problem that has been vexing us from the start!  I have no idea why this happens, it has something to do with the html coding of the forum.  Nicole is looking for upgrades and I will have her dig into this when she can.  I know it is very confusing and annoying.  I'll give everyone an update here soon.

Thank you all for making this such a great forum!

Thanks I appreciate your quick response to my concern.

I would like to let you know this is a wonderful site you have here. I hope to be around for a long time and see this site grow to be the biggest and most saught after pontoon site on the net.

Again thanks for everything and congrats to you on doing such a wonderful job.

Thought the thread was interesting as a couple of guys who've posted are now moderators of this forum and weren't at the time of these posts.

And as for the quote and double quotations converting to single quotation marks and messing with people's minds when it comes to feet and inches, we are now back on track to getting a forum software upgrade and hopefully that'll fix several issues.
