I get that once in a while too. What I have found is if you post a new comment then you will be able to see the pictures.
Then what I did was just delete my post, unless of course I really had something of value to say. Which is very seldom.

I know last year when I first joined, I had problems initially seeing the photo's that were uploaded to the site. There was an issue that sometimes the file location of the photo was changed sometime after the upload. The correct location would be http://www.pontoonstuff.com/Forum/uploads/scbadiver/2007-07- 03_161055_4-16-07-30.jpg (using one of scbadivers photo's as an example so you can ignore anything after /uploads) but sometimes when someone points it out they are having trouble, by right clicking the photo (red x where photo should be as on occasion I do see that) the location would have an extra /pontoon stuff/ (notice the space between). I can fix that by just saving it to my local drive, delete the bad one, and re-insert the photo again and save the message (user who uploaded it originally, can also do that). But its rare now that I see a Red X.
So what I'd like to do, is have you guys state what operating system you're using, what browser you're using and do you apply all updates from Microsoft or just critical updates (default from Microsoft which you can change).
I'm using the following OS's (operating systems), all updates are applied (including recommended) including latest adobe flash players and shockwave players for IE7 (also use Internet Explorer v7 on all machines).
Windows XP Pro (home and work computers) w/IE7
Windows Vista (Business & Enterprise) w/IE7
Windows Server 2003 & 2008 w/IE7
So even if you're not having trouble viewing photo's like some do, go ahead and list what you're using, maybe then we can determine exactly why some can't view like others can (posting first and then being able to see is weird). Oh and as far as RAM goes, I don't think that would be an issue as I have machines that go from 128 megs of ram all the way to 8 gigs of ram (Dell XPS 420) although most of my machine at home range from 2 gigs to 8 - Robbie, have you fired up either of those machines I gave you yet? (both will have IE7 on it, XP has 512megs of ram, Vista Ultimate has 2 gigs of ram)

I am running XP Pro SP3. I think my issue was resolved when I installed SP3. I haven't had the issue since.

Something that was just mentioned in another thread, was the fact one didn't seem to have an issue after they installed Service Pack 3 (SP3) for XP, but I just remembered I haven't had an issue on XP (or any machine) since I started using IE7 on all machines I use. So I'm going to remove IE7 from one of my virtual XP machines and view the photo's on the forum and see if I can reproduce the photo red x problem (got a lot of work to do today so I'll do my best to complete this section)

I have been running IE7 for a while now and I had the problems with IE7 when I was SP2. So I am not sure that is the problem.

Well, I uninstalled IE7 off my virtual XP machine and can't reproduce the problem. Won't have time for any more troubleshooting until tonight as I need to install XP fresh and use the defaults. Hopefully by then someone will post enough info we can work off of it and narrow it down. I'll start with an installation of XP w/SP1 and work up from that if I get time. Got house hunting going on plus making arrangements for surgery (hopefully get it over with this week as I've got too much work to get done)

Thanks Bruce, you've given me what I needed and suspected all along. Of course it doesn't actually explain how some of us rarely have issues while others do all the time. I'm trying to figure out though why the code reports it one way before someone posts, and then the underlying code changes after a person posts to see the photo's. Nicole D., pontoonstuff's web admin I know is just swamped with work and it'll be a low priority issue for them until the business slows down to where she can help out, but by then, we'll be almost to the point of utilitizing new forum software which also has to wait until their business slows down. But she might take a peek or two for the code differences, say do a search and replace code for one that doesn't work too good with code that always works, but I'm betting its buried in there deep (since she didn't have anything to do with the coding to start wtih). I'm hoping though its just a config file error problem which goes back to what you said - that would be a simple enough fix. I'll bring it up to Jim and Andrea one day soon.

Here's where the code is broke - notice the /pontoon-forum/ section - that's wrong, remove it from the url and it works just fine. I think this is something Nicole D. can work with. I've looked into what I can see and everything is A-OK, so its going to be in a web config file is my bet.

Okay thought of more to ramble about, more URL differences which to me still points to a config file somewhere.
When your making a post you see the below screen shot if you click the FORUM CODES it should pop up all the available codes you can use to change the appearance of your post. If you click on it, it shows the page can not be displayed. The URL to that post is:
http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/pontoon-forum/forum_codes. asp
But if you take out the pontoon-forum and leave the rest you get the page that should appear when you click the link:
http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/forum_codes.asp
So not sure where the problem lies, the more I see the more it makes me think that two copies of the forum software are loaded on the server one in the root of forum and another in pontoon-stuff..... But not knowing more about software not sure if that is normal or something custom. I wonder if the developer of the site originally thought they would use the base code located in the forum directory for multiple sites and then config multiple sites, such as pontoon-forum, boatseat-forum .... etc allowing to use one message board software with multiple sites... and now this setup is causing some minor viewing/config issues.
Just another random thought by Bruce, see you all next episode.

Makes a lot of sense bruuuce. I had a problem similar to this when I was working on our website. I had created a duplicat folder by accident and some things were pointing to the root folder and others were pointing to the sub-folder. I think you might be on to something.
I don't have any experience with asp though. I just use Dreamweaver to do what I need to do. Even though my version is a few years out of date it still seems to do the job

Finally I find a post that would give me the incorrect url of http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/pontoon-forum/2110-8-darn- such-luck.asp?PN=1
So yes, removing pontoon-forum seems to be the key. We have 3 different new user accounts (never did figure out how that happened), I was able to remove the other duplicate accounts once I verified which account held the data, but the 3 new user account have no delete icon for them. So its possible that the software got dorked up during the install and wasn't cleaned out before another install attempt was made. I also found by looking at the source code that we are using webwizforum software v7.91 and the latest and greatest is v9.50 which has a lot more features (don't know about the admin tools though), but I'd rather keep the same type of forum software we are currently using because its just more user friendly (in my opinion of course).
Bruce and others, thanks for the help, it should help Nicole pinpoint the problem area.

In the admin section I see, no, it only asks for the path of the url for the forum. The web admin though has another section she deals with thats not visible to forum admins.
I have noticed though that some of our forum topics for whatever reason, seem to have different paths as opposed to other forum topics. For example this url
http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/pontoon-forum/1271-10-my-a ll-new-1975-p-1.asp?PN=1 has the pontoon-forum that gives photos the problem red x, but if they displayed correctly in properties without the pontoon-forum like this photo that's located at that first message of that url it has for the path http://www.pontoonstuff.com/Forum/uploads/scbadiver/2007-07- 03_161055_4-16-07-30.jpg but I did test earlier today with another profile I created that was a newbie and photos with problems have the http://www.pontoonstuff.com/Forum/pontoon-forum/uploads/scba diver/2007-07-03_161055_4-16-07-30.jpg in the properties.
So I think back in the beginning when the forum software was first installed, they must have run into a problem and didn't uninstall it completely before reinstalling it again, as they probably (just a hunch) reinstalled or possibly moved the data from its original configuration (been reading up on the troubleshooting guide of v9.50 from earlier versions. Other links to the forums show http://www.pontoonstuff.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2295 as athe path (don't look past .asp? for those of you not computer savvy to see what I mean).
However, with the web admin's current heavy work load until the season slows down, not much can happen until she has more time. After all, PontoonStuff has to continue serving us as customers when we order, the forum software update can wait a few more months .

Thought this might help you administrator guys that are trying to run down the pic viewing problem. On any of my computers, if I will go to the last post, i.e. the arrow on the far right, I can always view all of the pics. If I click on the forum topic itself, the pics almost never show up. Maybe if we can find out what the difference is between these two it will help get it cleared up. 'Love this Forum!!!'

Don't think I'm following you Phil, because on topics that only have a post or 2, there isn't an arrow to the far right to see the last post, I only see that if there is more than one page to that topic. Oh, and I moved your post to here since we already had a topic regarding pics.
This issue should go away when we update the software with the correct configuration. Problem is now is that there seems to be two separate paths for both forums and location of pictures. For whatever reason, some of us have computers that never gives us any more problems with viewing pics (although I don't see pics on occasion if they are not hosted by us), some always have problems viewing pics. I configured a machine (built from scratch) for scbadiver and he's not had one problem viewing pics as he once did on his old machine.

Charles, I don't know if it is because you have administrator access or not but I see the arrow there all the time whether there are 0 posts or 10 pages. With that said, I don't think that is the problem, I have tried it both ways and I still haven't had an issue seeing any pictures no matter what I try they always seem to work for me. I look forward to the update.

I'll try it with a dummy account I have created that has normal access. Its the same account I used to analyse the pic issue (which from my computers and work computers I had none even in normal mode). But I do know there's a configuration issue (in more than one place, which I have no access to).

Yes, we know, it has to do with the configuration of the forums that I can't see, there are two paths, but for over a year now I don't have that problem anymore. When we upgrade, there will only be one path for photos and posts.

I posted four pictures of my boat earlier today and they were visable. When I came back they weren't. After I added a post they were back again - then they weren't - again.
I noticed on a different thread that someone (Wildcat Dude, I think) had several pictures in a post and only three of more than a dozen were visible. That really seems odd.
Sounds like a fun project for someone to figure out. Good luck!

Been discussed in some deep detail already and we know what the problem is, just can't be fixed yet. There's a whole topic about that along with other quirks of the forum software (that's really really outdated). Problem is that the forum database is tied to PontoonStuff's business database, it has to be separated during a slow time for them, as I have to rely on others since I have no direct access to the database.

I have been having trouble seeing the pics also. I read about posting to see the pics and then deleting post. While doing this I realized that I did not have to acctually submit a post. Just hit the post reply button and all the pics show up
