Hello, I have visited this site a few times since obtaining our 91 Suntracker 30 DL. We traded a 1979 HD Shovelhead, fully restored with custom paint and 5 speed tranny for our 30' toon. Again, something to re-build. No worries HD fans, we still enjoy riding on the 06 Road King. I figured I would get in on the action to show off the rebuild as well as receive some much needed pointers or use the forum for a sounding board for some ideas we have on the rebuild. We have certainly come a long way since obtaining the toon January 2008. We have more ideas to make this party hut a peach. I already reworked the galley and the potty room. I understand briankinley2004's plight regarding the cabin tops. Ours was in the same condition as Brian's original pic. FYI, I love the color scheme of your toon!!! We were thinking early on about changing the color scheme and I chose burgandy. It is great to see what Linda's Lounge will look like once the new colors are completed. I re-sewed every rotted seam in the cabin tops. Most screens were rotted. We have a total of 8 different cabin top parts. I replaced the rotted screens with fabric sunscreen. A huge amount of sewing. It took me a couple of months of working at my day job and coming home to work at my new evening task of repairing all the cabin tops. We only completed necessary repairs and upgrades to launch the toon and use it for the season. We still need to replace the floor and all the interior seating.  The wood structure of the seats are rotted.  We have had an absolute wonderful time with our friends and family but will need to compete the redecking and rebuiling of the seating before next season.  I think we can still make one more weekend trip this season.  We trailer the monster to different lakes and waterways from our Sacramento, CA area home.  Posting pics soon!

I know about thw rotted wood parfts... mine was completely shot... redoing with composite deck 1X6 to make new front seats... this is for storage for all the life jackets and the air can circulate and dry,....

Hello,  I am in the process of arranging some pics to post.  I am computer savy but it still might take me a few tries to get my pic formatting correct.  The first pics are the Shovelhead before and after.  Some may not think ths forum is the place to post the Harley pics.  This Harley is the reason we have this boat.  We cannot stress enough how amazing our pontoon boat has been for us this season. I will post the full story on the appropriate thread and some will find very interesting.  We miss the attitude of this Harley and representation of Vietnam Vets and POW's.  Check out the graphics, the Eagle hugging the American flag and the POW emblem on the rear fender.  All graphins were handpainted by 'Doc'.  You will see a tent strapped to the saddle bag of the after pic.  This is a camping trip to Union Lake, CA we took last summer.   We met some friends up there so all we needed was our tent an a change of clothes.  We pulled Linda's Lounge to Union Lake twice this summer.  I included the before pic of the aft cabin top.  I do not have a good after pic but will take one today and post later.

Thats alot of sewing Linda. I won't be using the enclosure on mine as I am changing the floor plan. I may use it on the front if I can figure out a way to make a bimini type top out of it. Would love to see some completed pics of your toon as mine is similar and I need all the ideas I can get!

Be sure to post some pics of your boat(s) in the 'Show Off Your Pontoon' section (or rebuild depending if you have before/after pics), as we'd love to see them. Also tell us your story in How did you come to join the forums? (just click on the red link and tell us all about it ).  You probably did like a lot of us have. Looking for pontoon accessories and either found it through www.PontoonStuff.com ebay site or web store. Jim (administrator) and Andrea (pontoongirl) Myers (our hosts) have excellent staff members to help them help you find whatever it is you're looking for your boat and has excellent shipping and customer service. Have fun and happy boating. Be sure to edit your signature line to include details of your boat and  (don't forget the year of the motor and model number if johnson/evinrude etc) motor so folks won't have to ask for it if questions arise later. I'd add more, but don't have my glasses on and after 10.5 hrs of driving from Smyrna, TN to Elkhart, IN (PontoonStuff HQ's), I'm absouletly exhausted (only went to bed at 2am and got up at 5:30am for the road trip). Here are some more pics of the boat.  This was in January shortly after we brought her home.

Before pic of galley.  We took this pic when we went to see the boat to determine if it was a good deal to trade the HD.  Check out the plant growing in the sink drain.  The boat was stored at a boat storage facility new Lake Oroville, CA.

The pic above does not show the front of the cabinet.  The cabinet front was covered with the same gray vinyl as the rest of the furniture in the boat.  The refrigerator was in place but not fully installed.  It was not mounted to anything, just sat in the hole.  I seemed to be a brand new refer, propane and AC.  The packing tape was still inside holding the shelves in place.  We removed the vinyl covering and used 1/4' oak panels to trim the cabinet front.  The refer did not have a panel in the front and we used the same 1/4 inch oak panel in the refer door.  We sanded the oak trim on the existing counter top and restained.  It came out very nice.  We used a 1/2 piece of oak plywood to make the table at the end of the counter.  This table folds down but gives me extra room for cooking.  I did not like the alcohol one burner stove or the nasty moisture damaged cabinet.  Out it all went.  We purchased a new pump faucet and the 3 burner stove.  The accessories on the walls came from Ikea.  I purchased several different sets from Ikea and would bring them home and check for fit and functionality.  These were the ones that worked the best.  This pic was on one of our weekend escapades this summer.

This next pic was another of the original pics we took before the boat was ours.  You can see the top canvas hanging from the frame.  You can also see the weather deteriorated upholstery on the seats.  We had a very bad storm that caused a lot of destruction around our area on 1/4/08 and the top canvas was a casualty of the wind.  Not a complete loss.  I did a lot of sewing and patching.  Luckily I found scraps of the canvas material in the boat.  Whoever did the cabin tops purposely left scrapes in the boat for repairs. The carpet was very dirty also.

Here is a pic of the cleaned carpet.  I used a hose and spray nozzle and sprayed it out.  I used my carpet cleaner to suck up the excess water.  We did not want to recover the seating this year so I purchased beach towels at Sam's Club (cheapest way to go to get heavy duty terry cloth) I used the seats as patterns and sewed covers for each cushion.  The covers have elastic to hold the covers on the seats.  They have been great.  I have put them in the washing machine a couple of times.  They get dirty, I wash them.  I will probably still use them after we get the new upholstery.  No sitting on a hot seat or sticking to the seat while wearing shorts.

The next pic is a good pic of the top canvas attached to the sundeck and fully extended.  We also have one of the side panels on the cabin.  The sundeck and cabin sides have c channels that the canvas threads into to hold it onto the sundeck structure and fences.  I will take some pictures of the piping cord used to thread into the c channels.  The aft side of the cabin side canvas has snaps that attach to the stucture from inside.  They are not snapped in this pic.  We put the sides on to keep out the sun.  This is why I used sunshade screen.  There are flaps on the inside that roll up and you can have them closed or open to let the air in but keep the hot sun out.

This pic may not be real clear.  We were at the American River and my brother in law went up the bank and zoomed in on the boat.  We had her close to the beach so we could get out and roam the river bank.  I will post more pics of some other things we have accomplished.  I have a few pictures of the lounge completely enclosed with the cabin tops.  The BBQ stand, the TV, stereo and some modifications on the trailer.  I hope you enjoy the pics.

Welcome to the forum. I also had a Harley that I sold to get the pontoon. One thing that is great is that the pontoon can be shared with the whole family and have fun while the Harley was only for my own pleasure. It looks like your whole gang is having fun with your new pontoon.  Good luck on your project.

Hi Brian, the propane tank is under the fold up table for now.  It is a 5 gallon tank and we get about 3 weekends out of the tank.  (I cook a lot to feed all the people we always have with us). When we first lit the refer to test there was a lot of exhaust smell in the galley.  The exhaust was not vented to the outside of the boat.  We used a sweeping 90 elbow from the exhaust port on the refer (the sweeping 90 degree as to not restrict the heat) and drilled a hole in the side of the boat above the fence but below the counter top and used another 90 degree elbow to take it through the side of the boat.  This cured the exhaust smell in the boat. This is still not the proper exhaust venting situation.  ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS???? We are having a bit of trouble with the wind blowing out the pilot light.  We always have to position the boat so the wind does not blow straight at the exhaust pipe.  At first it seemed it was creating a lot of heat on the counter top.  We added another vent on the side of the boat right below the counter top (12' x 4').  When cutting this new hole my husband had to cut about 1. inches of the aluminum bracket under the counter top to get the vent hgh enough.  No worries the cutting of the bracket did not take to much to affect the stability of the counter top.  The original installer put a vent at the floor level not directly adjacent to the burner.  As heat rises of course, this low vent was not releasing the heat from the entire cabinet.  Our first trip out we had to keep the cabinet door open to release the heat.   I am putting some pics together that are on my laptop that will show you the forward seating arrangement made into a bed.  I thought about purchasing new furniture from PS but I would lose my forward bed.  The forward bed sleeps 4 comfortably.  The table makes into a twin sized bed. 

The continuing saga of the rebuild - - We brought the Lounge home the weekend after my B-day in January. The weather was still a little nasty but we put tarps over the Lounge and on every good day we started tearing out the galley parts. ON bad days I was sewing. You can see in the before pic of the galley that the alcohol stove was raised up from the counter top with pieces of particle board. They did this because the refer was too tall for the stove to sit down properly. The rain soaked particle board was nasty, out it went along with the stove and cabinet. The entire boat except the head was soaked, under the seats, the seats, everywhere. By the design of the aft deck over the fuel tanks and motor we realized this was to be made into a bed. There is a board the fits down into a slot behind the aft seat. The board pulls up and lays over the arm rests of the aft seats and viola, a nice sized bed. No mattress, no big deal, we have a large cab over camper on our old truck that is well worn and about done as it is started to show some rot in places. The mattress in the camper was always a very comfortable bed when camping, perfect size but did not fold in half to fit in place. We when to the local flea market and purchased some vinyl for the underside and mattress ticking for the top. We took the measurements, foam and material to an upholstery shop and they made us a beautiful mattress for our bed. The mattress fits perfectly in is spot but definitely need to add snap straps. (Actually the upholsterer put snap straps on the matt but we have not been smart enough or taken enough time to install snaps to attach to. We have to put a ratchet type strap over the mattress to keep it from blowing out. Yes, the mattress ended up in an intersection of the highway in rush hour traffic. My husband was taking the boat to the boat doctor for some diagnostics on the motor on his way to work. I was on my way to work, heading in a different direction, when the traffic report came on the radio reporting a mattress in the roadway. There could have only one reason a mattress would have been in this intersection at this time of the morning. MY BED was in the road! More to follow with the story of why the Lounge had to visit to the boat doctor. Hear is a pic of the entire cabin tops in place and what it looks like from the inside. The torches are standard solar garden lights with back up battery. They last about 12 hours when we remember to put them in the sun to recharge.

I really like the idea of those terry seat covers, would you be willing to make them for my boat if I sent you measurments, if so how much? you really have something there.

Here are some additional pics of how the aft bed looks when folded up and how the forward seating transforms into a bed. I also added some pics of the under seat storage organizer and some other organizers I installed in the bathroom and on the galley cabinet door.

This is a pic of the aft bed folded up and the board in place in the slot behind the seats.

Viola! a nice comfy bed.

This is the original table that came with the boat.  It rocked around badly and was not stable at all.  We stabilzed the table by adding a pice of scrap oak from the flip up table or cabinet door at the fence end of the table.  It is all screwed through the fence.  No more wobbly table.

The table fix, for now.  This seating area makes into a twin bed.  The table comes out completely and is not used to make the bed.  The seats create the beds as in the next pics.

The part of the seat with the fold down leg is the backrest. The is a aluminum tube mounted to the seat frame with two slots per seat.  The backrest has an L bracket mounted on the back side.  These brackets fit into the slots to hold the seat in place. 

This is just another view.  When all four seats are hooked up, they all meet in the center of the floor making a huge bed.

This is a pic of what is under this same seat.  This is my grocery store.  The divided box is actually one of those collapsible auto organizers people have to organize things in their car or put grocery bags in after shopping so everything doesn't still all over the car.  My husband brought this home and it is great.  Before everything was just in there and I had to move everything around to find one little can of beans or something.

Ya gotta luv Wally World!  I bought these coated wire racks, three came together for under $10.  This is two of them we mounted above the porta potty, makes reaching for the sunscreen very easy.  The upper shelf came with boat.

This is the third coated shelf mounted on the inside of my galley cabinet door.

Hello, The tear down has begun.  We ordered the re-deck kit from Pontoon Stuff this evening.  Here are some pix of the tear down.  The floor is bad in several places.  We would not have made it throught another season without having to patch the floor in places.  The roof will need to have some of the wood replaced also.  It is not all bad but leaked around the Nav light and it is very rotted.

Hi Wildcat Dude!!  This forum is amazing... and Yes Sir, I purchased the Jasmine Blue textured 28 oz.  Thank you for the pix of your rebuild.  I was able to see what it would look like.  I need your help please. We started stripping the decals off one of the fences and created a great technique for lifting the old cracked decals.  We took lots of pix and I would like to post.  I know I saw a thread for this topic.  I just spent the last 1.5 hours looking for the thread and I cannot find it. (of course I kept getting side tracked by reading other interesting stuff).

Yours is lookin alot like mine Linda except luckily I am going the other way now. I have decided to make the walls out of 3/4' tubing. I can order skin similar to an RV for the outside and use 1/8' paneling on the inside with a foam core and get back to the original 1' thickness. I plan to pick up the tubing this weekend and begin welding. Hopefully I can post pics soon.
