PontoonStuff Tips: How To Install Pontoon Carpet

To properly install your new boat carpet make sure you have either installed new CCA treated marine plywood or successfully cleaned up the existing pontoon boat decking.

Begin with a clean floor and roll your boat carpet out onto the deck, look for any damage in the carpet before you glue it down. Fold the boat carpet in half running the length of the pontoon, so you have 4 foot wide by however long the deck is showing. This way you can simply stand next to the pontoon boat rather than getting on your knees and crawling around, it also keeps the carpet square. Once you have troweled the glue in lines over the exposed deck fold the carpet down over the glue and repeat the process on the other side. After applying the glue and laying the carpet down use a heavy pipe or roller to press the carpet into the lines of glue insuring a proper bond. Your new pontoon boat carpeting will need to set up for at least 12 hours in weather above 70 degrees. To be safe keep it covered for 24 hours and never allow the carpet to get wet or stay out overnight uncovered.
