An Unexpected Find with Hidden Potential
Greg had been searching for a used pontoon for several years when he stumbled across a Sun Tracker on his way to a garage sale. The price was right, and the aluminum decking gave him confidence that the foundation was worth building on.
Originally, he planned a simple refresh with new carpet and lawn chairs. But after discovering PontoonStuff and browsing through the product lineup, Greg committed to a full renovation instead of settling for a temporary fix.
Going All In
Once Greg decided to redo everything, the project gained momentum. With a clear scope in mind, he was able to move confidently through the research, planning, ordering, and installation phases. He chose to keep the original railings since they were structurally sound. Instead of replacing the pontoon fence, he refreshed it with paint and custom graphics, letting the new furniture and flooring do the heavy lifting visually.
Pontoon Redesign from Wiring to Layout
This renovation touched every inch of the boat. Greg rewired the entire electrical system, installed new switches, added a new stereo system, and integrated lighting throughout.
He replaced the flooring with vinyl and installed a complete furniture package with a new console. The original Fishin' Barge layout had rear-facing seats designed around fishing. He redesigned the rear of the boat to include a built-in storage area and an elevated deck perfect for jumping into the water. The new seating layout opened up the space and made the boat feel larger, creating more separation between the motor and passengers, resulting in a quieter ride.
New seat pedestals gave the furniture the right height and positioning, and the Bimini top replacement ensured the whole setup was protected from the sun. What had been a dated fishing barge now looked and functioned like a boat built for a completely different life on the water.
Knowing Where to Stop
Not every renovation decision meant spending more money. Greg's ability to identify what was worth keeping and what needed to go was just as important as the upgrades themselves.
By carefully planning each step and keeping the original railings, he kept costs in check without sacrificing a brand-new feel.
